Video Converting Software
Ok techies. My digital camera records .MOV which is apparently incompatible with everything on the planet but QT. I need to find a converson software that can convert it to a normal format, decrease file size (my 6 min video is 100 megs), and ideally put my copy on it. I have some great indigo feeding video that I took last night.

It depends on how much you want to pay. lol
If it were, say, mpeg, I would reccomend Windows Media Encoder 9 because it's a free download. Since it is MOV, you need something like Discreet cleaner XL. But that's about a $500 piece of Software.
There is a ton of shareware and trial stuff out there that will convert it for you such as this one AVI to DVD in 60 minutes, WinAVI Video Converter free download now!
but I won't vouch for how good it's going to be.

Take a look at QT Pro's list of export formats and see it any of those are useful:
Apple - QuickTime - QuickTime Pro - Tech Specs

From John's post about the QT export formats, if you can export it to MPEG-4, you can then use WME to encode it to WMV. That is a MUCH smaller and easier format to work with. Windows Media Encoder

I just came across this too. This one may be faster than AVC, but try both out. This one uses a piece of software called ffmpeg. Without going into a techie spill, ffmpeg is used to convert video/audio from one source to a different format very quickly.

It is a slow day at the office. I wish I had brought my SD card with me to work to test them out.

Icedtrip, that Super seems like a winner. I downloaded and was playing around with the Quicktime sample movie.
But now it is a matter of what output (mpeg1, mpegII, etc), what converter (ffmpeg, mencoder, ffmpeg2theora, or producer),

As for the encoder, you can't go wrong with ffmpeg or mencoder. As for the output, mpegI or mpegII should play on pretty much anything (Quicktime, Windows Media Player, VLC, Mplayer, etc). I am not a big WMV fan, so I personally stay away from it.
I'll see what I can find concerning the DirectShow thing.

I can still convert without DirectShow option, but with it, I can add my copyright. Lack of copyright is why my Timber Rattlesnake combat video is not online yet.

I'll check it when I get home tonight. But entertainment is where I looked. Maybe it is not with the Acer bundle.

I don't know how seriously you want to get into video editing and such but two programs that are just awesome (albeit pricey) are Adobe Premier Pro and AVID. I personally love AVID, but that one is kind of up there in cost.
