Find another accessory
So I get a call last week, the guy from the pet shop that I paid an exorbitant amount of money to get my boa away from, saying that a girl who used to come in the shop and play with the snake is a Year 3 Vet student and would like to borrow the snake for a talk on the university campus.
I told him I would think about it and let him know, I really didn't want to do it but he said it was for a good cause. So here I am thinking vet student, okay maybe its for educational purposes. My husband who is apparently more paranoid about our animals than I am was adamant that we were not leaving the snake and we had to be there. Okay so when the guy calls me back again on the Wednesday and begged some more I said ok fine.
Remember I'm still thinking an educational conference or paper or something.
Saturday arrives, I'm happy and on my way to stuff myself full of sushi, when my cell rings and its the vet student, saying that they would need the snake by 7 and if we could not bring it, she would come pick it up herself. I ask her which lecture hall its going to be in and she tells me the building and room and then goes on to say the model will have her around her neck and her...excuse me? The model? I thought this was educational, what type of talk is this...well there will be modelling, and a band playing and a...well look this is not what I was told it was going to be. Anyway I told her that in as much as I said they could borrow the snake, I disapprove but okay I'll see you at 7.
Call the husbandly unit and he goes oh heck NO! and really I'm relieved cause he's the one always making sure to keep promises and stuff. So I quite happily call her back and tell her that I spoke to him and he didn't approve either and really and truly our snake is not a fashion accessory. Thankfully she just said okay and left it like that.
I can't believe the nerve of some people, I mean really. I would be a thrill I suppose, it would make their model look hotter if she parades around the place with a snake on her shoulders. Okay some people go for that sort of thing, but seriously, not with my baby.

My rule is that if it involves performance, I am the only person who gets to touch my snakes/spiders/lizards. I have gone onstage while singing with a snake or spider on a couple occasions, but that is because I know how the entity behaves.
People should not borrow the snakes of others for performances. That has so many horrible possibilities.

heh thanks guys. I just find it odd that you love animals enough to want to be their doctor and heal them when they're ill but on the other hand you're willing to exploit an animal when the opportunity presents itself.

I think a lot of people just have a twisted sense of positive exposure. Thinking that using an animal as a fashion accessory will somehow educate others and convince them that the species in question is really not that frightening, is, well, not very bright, to say the least.

What bother me about the whole ordeal is the fact that you were told that she is a vet student and would like to borrow it for educational purposes...what the heck is that all about?! That is a blatant lie and is unacceptable!

Well he didn't lie, she is a vet student and it was on the university campus like he said it was, it just wasn't an educational talk but a show. I'll just leave it as miscommunication.
