my mom and chance
first a little bit about mom. this is the woman who moved to GA and when she realizes GA had many snakes she had us come and get her and she left her husband and new home. she use to have screaming nightmares of snakes. she would see them on TV and you could see her get goose bumps.
chance enters the picture. first surgery i had to beg my mom to drive us. she finally agreed if we sat in the back seat and chance was in her tote with the lid securely shut.
she sat at the opposite side of the waiting room as me and chance.
second surgery she willingly drove us and sat by us in the waiting room and threw a few 'poor girl' at chance.
third surgery we sat in the waiting room and she would pet chances tail and call her 'grandmas girl' wouldn't touch the top part of chance though.
police get called and they come to take chance away...mom helps stretch chance to get a measurement and rushes to get the car to get chance out of the place so she dont have to be taken away.
now today she loves chance and chance is always 'grandmas girl' and ' is your mom taking care of you good?' 'is this darn diet almost done' 'grandma will sneak you a few rats when your mom isn't looking.' no chance my mom would ride around with live or dead rats in her car!
well today my dream came true. i have 2 of my most favorite things in the world together. no fear left at all today is a day i will always remember and love.
there really is no words for the joy i felt today

That's awesome... you bring ispiration to me for my family! Well, let me rephrase that...for my dad. My mom will hold my snakes, but my dad won't even come into my house because of them. He's the type of guy that will pull his feet up in his chair when he watches that infamous scene in Indiana Jones. I've told him numerous times that ONE DAY, I'll get him to hold my little guy and eventually work his way up.
Your story fills my heart with hope!

i think a lot of it had to do with...my mom loves me and i love chance. she seen the tears and heartbreak i went through with the surgerys. i think her love for me caused her to love chance.

I'm sure that played a big part in it. I just hope that it doesn't take a situation as dramatic as Chance's to bring him around!

i think it is also kind of hard to fear a snake that gets dressed up as a bumble bee etc...

Ya, it was. I think my mom still feels guilty from when I was a kid. I had wanted a snake for a long time growing up and she never let me get one. I had all kinds of other herps, leopard geckoes, day geckoes, chuckwallas I'd catch from the mountain, etc.
When I was 13 she finally let me get a baby corn snake. I had it for about 4 months and when I was on a trip, my mom fed it for me. Unfortunately the pinky mouse she got was a little too big and the snake suffocated while trying to eat it. I came home and found it dead with the mouse still in the snake's mouth. I didn't get another snake for 10 years after that.
Here's a pic of my mom with Ty. He was getting ready to shed and was still sweet and didn't fuss.

Louise~ I'm sitting here with a face splitting grin on my face! That's just beyond sweet with your Mom and Chance! It took my husband 23 yrs to get over his fear of snakes and let me own one (In our house)!!! It takes time, but it's so worth it in the end!
Congrats Louise, Chance and Mom!! The circle is complete now!
