SHAMELESS PLUG: Proud Father & Coach
:::shameless plug starts here:::
As some of you know, I used to be an avid volleyball player. Due to my back problems, playing is out -- except once in a great while. BUT, my blessing is to be the assistant coach for my daughter's middle school volleyball team -- the Aggies. Recently, we played a local school tournament -- and WON!
As of last week, we are UNDEFEATED -- including, non-conference, conference and tournament play. That's not just to say the girls won their matches. They have won EVERY SINGLE GAME thus far.
In case you're wondering ( and I know most of you are not), I'm the coachy-looking guy on the right side (facing you). My daughter, Alex, is the beauty kneeling on the back row; second from the left ( white ribbon; funky smile). The coach ( on my right in the glasses) is Jeff Gore, one heckuva nice guy and friend. Jeff's daughter is on the right of the trophy (holding on to it w/ her right hand).
:::shamless plug complete:::

Way to go! It sounds like you are a great coach. Congratulations go out to Alex too! She should be proud of what she has accomplished.

Thats great Charlie!
Ive been coaching a cheerleading squad this year..WOW! Thankfully they were all too young to be REALLY moody yet..LOL
We still have the rest of this month to go, since it's just the 9-10yr old footballl cheerleaders, and we don't have to worry about basketball.
It is a lot of work, and I have to ask you, do you have any overbearing parents? I have a girl who's parents show up to every practice, and talk behind my and the other coach's back about how the husband could do a better job coaching, etc..
The father got mad at the little girl because she was messing up a step in a cheer, and he actually slapped her across the face and told her to "focus, or you wont do this again ever". :cuss:
I was not at that practice, and its a good thing.

That's great! You have a very valid reason to be a proud father.
I love to watch my kids compete. Even though it's an emotional roller coaster!
Best of luck (which is really hard work) in future games!

THANKS everyone! It's a real pleasure to coach... and to be there for Alex. She is a good player.
Courtney, we have some parents who grumble from time to time. BUT, the way I see it -- I'm coaching and they're armchair quarterbacking. We make the best decisions we can, and don't sweat the grumbling.
As for the parent who slapped his child, I wish I had been there when that happened. The next time he thought about slapping his daughter, he would surely remember that stint in the hospital after getting his rearend kicked for hitting a child in that manner.

SHAMELESS PLUG FOLLOW-UP...
The girls finished their season UNDEFEATED! They lost one game out of ALL their matches. This is the first time in the school's history that the volleyball team was undefeated for the entire season. They were blessed to win TWO championships -- the tourney and the conference season. YIPPEE!
The only sad news is that Alex hurt her knee and ankle at practice Monday morning (nothing serious), and wasn't able to play in the last two matches Monday night. Bummer! She was there cheering on the team, though!

Shoot, I missed this thread when it was first posted. Nothing wrong with some boasting where boasting is due. Congrats to the whole team and the coaches for a fantastic season.

DaveA,
There is NOTHING more special in my life than spending special time with my wife and children. After all, we really only have " time" to spend anyway. Money and possessions are fleeting. Only time is everlasting.
