Superstitions
I was going to post to see if anyone had any problems with this being Friday the 13th but then I figured it might be a good arena to ask something else.
I had a dream that someone very close to me died. I haven't had a disturbing dream like that in a while and for some reason I still can't get it out of my head....this person is an important figure in my life.
Then a bird flew into a building my husband is opening up a business in up here. It crashed into a few walls and flew out. This happened as soon as I left yesterday. I didn't think much of it because I'm not the superstitious type..but everyone started telling me it means death is forthcoming.
I googled it and on one forum someone even suggested KILLING the bird before allowing it to leave....don't get me wrong I could never do that at all. I'm just tryong to point out how serious some people find this.
The thread is here:
http://www.city-data.com/forum/other...ird-house.html
I guess I'm a little shaken up though...I hate to admit this because I think these things are silly....do any of you believe in superstitions?

I've often noticed that the things we fear most never come about. Then it is just unneeded stress that shortens our lives and robs us of enjoying the here and now.
I have a very firm belief in not stressing over something I have no control over. It took me a long time to come to grips with that and I still struggle with it occasionally because I am human. I just have to keep reminding my to not worry about something, someone, or a situation I cannot control.

i dont believe in that kind of stuff at all. but in a dream book death means you are putting something that bothers you to rest.

Nicole, I didn't even realize it was Friday, 13th. I am not superstitious. I have my share of bad days and they are usually that way either because that is what I make of them or there is something beyond my control that makes it a bad day. I try to give each day it's own beginning but sometimes that can be really hard to do and I admit I've failed on occasion. I hope everybody has a great day today.

We wish him a safe and speedy return.
I have actually found herpers to be quite superstitious whether they admit it or not. When field herping, noone ever seems to keep the first catch of the day. Bad karma. Personally, I don't work in the hot room after a bite dream.

In high school I had a lot of superstitions/routines, different depending on which sport, but that's all pretty much worn off.
As for the type of things you explained, I've never really had any superstitions of that sort.
Your bird/death story sure reminded me of last night's episode of The Office though...

LOL!! In YOUR hot room, I wouldnt either..I'd be paranoid the whole time!
I just recently heard the one that it is bad karma to kill a spider in your home..
I'd kind of gotten out of killing them anyways after getting one.
I do sweep them out, or get the dust pan and scoop them out the door.

Ryan, good luch with your family while your dad is gone. A close friend of mine just returned from Iraq a month age, he was there for a year.
As for the superstitions, I'd say that if the person you dreamed about is important to you, and do everything in your power to visit with them as soon as you can. Call then or go see them and let them know how much you care about them. I am superstitious when it comes to dreams, not because i think they will come true, but because your subconsious is beign honest in your dreams. You might dream of a loss because you feel that your drifting apart. ( same way if i dreamed i got bit, i'm proibably not in the right state of mind to properly handel my snakes)

Ur pretty lucky if the things you fear have never come to play. I know I'm not that lucky

nicole i just dug out my kids dream books. death in a dream means a new beginning or a wedding. it also means you are putting something that bothers you to rest or behind you.
working in bars for 23 years i have worked plenty of fri.13ths and it was just another day. but a full moon we always had fights and such.

That's a great way to look at life -- for every day. THANKS for the reminder Heidi.
Nicole, to answer your question -- the only thing I believe in this arena is "full moon". I have worked in a hospital ER and believe me, there are more problems on full moon nights. None of the other superstitions affect me -- just don't believe in that stuff.
