Why I like this site
In the last week or so, there have been several "heated threads" that had to be closed. I thought it would be a good idea to remind ourselves, and each other, why we like this site. PLease take a minute and share your thoughts.
I'll start.
Of all the herp related forums I cruise, this one is my favorite. The reasons are simple. Here I find a sense of community balanced with the availability of excellent information. On some of the other sites, there's great community, but the available info/expertise doesn't compare. Then on some others, every expert in the world is online, but some are more concerned with demonstrating their expertise than helping someone who is trying to learn and do better for their animals. (They mock and slam because they can't be bothered by hobbyists or newbies).
At this site, I find people who are funny, smart, committed to their animals and to helping others, and who are forgiving when one of us sticks a foot in our mouth.
I look forward to checking in everyday to see new picks of familiar animals, and here updates on people's various adventures and misadventures.
Thank you to Natas and the whole staff for providing a medium for this community. I'm sure it's often tempting to throw in the towel, but despite the occaisional bickering, etc., the site is appreciated.
OK, who's next?

i like this site (and Boatalk.com) both so much because they are home.
it is a group of like-minded individuals who come together to share a common interest. a few people on this site are like family to me, and many many many more are good friends.
i LOVE the addiction to pictures, the many little bits of fun we have (+chance!), and the fact that no matter WHAT, this site really comes together to help someone in need. whether it is pet-related or NOT.
i heart you guys. :P

Bickering should not be tolerated but reasonable debate should be encouraged, especially among colleagues.
.
You may think it's fine to have a thread cancelled or deleted if your particular cause celebre was taking a beating but censorship ultimately harms everyone.
.
Not that I am knocking this site or it's helpers! Rather, I'm suggesting that when we want to argue a point we do it with facts and respect for others so that the threads don't require being blocked or deleted.
.
Gus.

Spirited debate supported by verifiable data is necessary for growth and learning. The ad hominem attacks (name calling) are unproductive and stifling of debate.
We don't have to agree, but we don't have to slam either.
I read a quote once; "When two people in busness together always agree, one of them is unnecessary."

I like it because there a MANY many really genuinely good people here. Like any other site or place were people gather there will be the "bad eggs", but those few that are "good" make it worth sifting through the nonsense.
EVERYONE have a good day!

I'n new to the site, but i LOVE it. I've tried a few other forums and none of them were really any good. When i came here, i weas welcomes WITHIN THE HOUR. That was an awoesome feeling of community, and you all wanted to see pictures of my pride and joy. very cool.
After the initial shock of of everyones friendly-ness wore off i learned that there is a huge wealth of knowledge here, and thats even better.
The closest herp vet i have is over 3 hours away, so this forum is a really big asset for dispelling silly fears without having to drive so far to the vet.
Thanks sooo much for all the help and family spirit

This site truely rocks, I've been to several sites and you won't find a community better than this one.
The people on this site genuinely care about each other. But it doesn't stop there; they even care about our pets (each other's pets) and all are willing to share knowledge to help others to get a better understanding about proper animal husbandry. And it doesn't matter wheather your 17 or 80 years old.
Thanks again for being "G" rated...
Now I'm also a Dad of two young girls who's favorite pets are snakes, and my oldest (8ys) loves to get online with this site and read (sometimes write) while she looks at the pictures. I know that the people on this site will help her if she ever needs info/knowledge about herps.
Thanks a bunch.
