how things have changed on RTB

i remember when i first started here years ago i would get beat to the ground for giving my snakes personalitys. i was hated here. but i didn't leave and i never stopped trying to make each of thier personalitys show. over the years i see so many others doing it now and it makes me so happy.
lots of people said i was giving my snakes human emotions. i dont feel that is true. i was just showing each ones different personality.

befor people would post pics fo thier snakes and it would be here is blah on the couch and here is blah in his cage. i seriously think by me showing chance pictures and basically talking for her it has made a lot of people see that snakes are so much more then just a hobby or something to look at. they are part of the family just like cats and dogs.

look how happy it makes members to see these little storys a lot of us tell with the pictures. it has made snakes more acceptable in ways.

awhile back i got asked to join a fish site (i have never owned a fish) because they were opening a subforum for snakes and wanted me to run it.
when i first started posting pics of chance i would always get replies like arnt you scared of her and man she is bigger then you. now after i have been there awhile and posted pics and let chances personality show through i get no fear related comments anymore. pretty much the same kind of comments i get here. she has been accepted on a fish site as a pet like any other. but i do state constantly that she is still a wild animal and i do not get laxed or lose respect for her.

even in the non internet world by me showing her personality and showing these pics of her with hats on and being cuddled and loved i have made the person i know that fears snakes worse then anybody accept and love chance.

well i am rambling here. what i basically wanna say is it does my heart good to see people interacting with thier snakes now and i love seeing people noticing thier snakes different personalitys. it is all worth the abuse i put up with the first year i was here. lol.

You have definately been an inspiration to me in the short time I've been a member/lurking here. Your love for your pets is nothing short of honorable and we should all try to treat our pets with as much love and respect that you show yours.

one thing i do want to point out is no matter how much we love them and think we know them we always have to keep it in our mind that they are wild animals and we can never lose site of that. we can never trust them 100%. but that makes them special in thier own way too.

I totally agree. I've been trying to be very careful with the new guy I got 3 weeks ago. The biggest thing I try to recognize is when he's in a defensive position and make sure that I never approach directly from the head.

Well, I don't know what it was like years ago. What I do know: I enjoy my visits here, BECAUSE I am certain that snakes have unique individual personalities. And I don't like sites that harrass me, because I do baby-talk with my snakes and give one a chin rub, another one a back rub and yet another one likes her tail wrapped around my finger, like as if I was curling my hair, etc. (they all have different likes and dislikes).
Anyways, I agree, Chance's pictures played an important role regarding me signing up in the first place and so did some of the funny stories and info I read while lurking around as a guest (especially those where the stories and info were directly linked to a personality trait of an individual snake).

Great post Louise. I also haven't been on here for too long to know how it used to be, but I think it's great now. Some other forums are all about who can breed the best whatever. I know I can come on here and talk to people about how I feel about my babies and know that I'm going to be understood. Well at least most of the time. LOL.

Louise, your revolution is partly what you say it is, people opening up to their Boas but mostly (in my opinion) it is that everybody has gotten very fond of you..

soundunsleep and kim..i know i didnt so called make it so people baby talked etc...with thier snakes. i just think i made it more acceptable and it doesn't have to be hidden now. i am also sure i have made it so people do see snakes in a different light. believe me on this site years ago alot of snakes didn't even have names. it was snake #1 and snake#2 etc.
soundunsleep i know exactly what you mean about them having different spots they liked tickled!

either that or it is a 'you can't beat them so join them type thing' lol and i couldn't be beat. i took all the slamming and just kept posting cute little stories and my snakes wearing clothes etc. lol

side note...i shouldn't say all my snakes. if i did stuff like that to my
guyana she would bite my face off and then stress out for months
my ball python would curl up in a little ball and die of fright
my garter would musk me as soon as i got near him
it really is about thier different personalitys

kim i think that is because some people have been doing it for 20+ years and they lost the joy of just holding and loving thier pet. or maybe they were never pets at all just a way to make money. you got to feel kind of bad for these people because they seriously don't know what they are missing.
when i went and stayed at bretts house i didn't care at all about be entertained orgoing here and there. i was the most happy in his snake roomwith his poor dum around my neck for hours at a time. my fav. day spent there was the day max got to come out all day

that was probably one of my most favorite days of my life. one of those things money just cannot buy.

another side note...kim these people have probably seen millions of RTBs and ball pythons and it just has lost is awww affect. that is why it is good to have newbies on sites. i will be a newbie forever. i will never lose that.

I agree with that. But when they go bashing every newbie question posted even when most are genuine help questions it just seems wrong to me. But when a regular member asks a similar question it is sincerely answered. Obviously the best thing to do is not go on there, but I just get aggravated sometimes.

louise... youre special. i think if i posted pics of hades wearing clothing, id get laughed at. but everyone awwwws chance. chance is my fav snake to see pics of here, seriously. shes cute. and i talk to all my snakes, every day. my morning isnt complete till i say goodmorning to each of them and i cant go to bed without sayin goodnight.

we all love you, and chance. and i, personally, just cant wait will the next time you post pics. cos they always make me giggle and aww :P

(and just for the record: i dont make baby talk at my snakes. i make toddler talk. lol)
