If the story is true, he lived and died doing something that he loved which is more than many people can say about what they do for a living. My thoughts are with his family.

that is awful, at least they say it was quick.
I always figured it would be a snake bite or the croc getting the better of him, those two would be much slower and painful.

I was in a really good mood until I read this. This is very tragic news, not only for his fans but mostly for his family.

What kind of stingrays have they got down there that can puncture the chest?

I'm in shock...
I don't care how many people in the industry disliked him, because of his handling techniques or whatnot...
I will forever be grateful to him, because it was HIM and HIS SHOWS that got me interested in reptiles, that got me to really LOOK at them and see their beauty...
So I feel like I owe him for discovering the wonderful world of reptiles...
And I feel terrible for his children and wife also. It was always so very apparrant just HOW MUCH he cared for them , and how involved he was in their life and up-bringing.
It honestely shocked me and I feel sad.
I also think that I wasn't the only one that discovered the beauty of the "slippery" animal kingdom through the early shows of Steve Irwin. His enthusiasm and love for the animals just carried you away...
Wow, still in shock.
RIP Steve, and thank you !

It really did shock me, people die all the time, and its always sad...but in a way, his death really is getting to me.
Reptiles have come to mean SO MUCH to me. My love for them has gotten me through a really rough spot in my life. And I have met some of the most wonderful people in this hobby.
My fear and disgust of snakes (sorry) was first changed because of Steves shows and his enthusiasm and great love for reptiles. It awoke my interest, it openend my eyes. I owe that to him.
Thats just sad, poor kids.

Exactly, my dream vacation is to go to Australia. I really thought I would make it one day, and also go to his Zoo, perhaps to be able to thank him personally for opening my eyes to the beauty of these animals.
