Static-
I shipped my boa UPS overnight in a cardboard box that I cut out styrofoam to fit in then i filled with shredded newspaper halfway. I put her in a plastic cont. with air holes and calci-sand. Put in a heat pack then filled really tight with more newspapr. She got here safe and sound. I don't know if it would work for a gecko, but this should bump it so more people can see it and respond to it. Good luck.
Trina
P.S. Why are you shipping it?

For shipping a gecko, USPS Express Mail is a viable option, so long as it is a location to which overnight service is available.
Airborne or UPS are also viable options, but will cost around $30 for next day air.

I paid %60 to overnight her UPS....FYI it is illegal to ship snakes thru UPS, but the guy at the counter for me did not mention that to me at the time...Thank goodness she was ok. Other "safe" reptiles are okay to ship thru most of the larger companies...good luck again.

Actually, it's not illegal to ship snakes via UPS. It is merely against company policy in most cases. In others, UPS does knowingly allow the shipping of nonvenomous snakes from a select few dealers.

Okay well I've already been contacted by 2 people so far.. 30 bucks is stiff for shipping an handeling so I said i'd also ship them a water dish an other accesories.. Does the shipping depend on weight or what? I'd like to give em tha sand 2 but it weighs so i don't want anything making it cost anymore..
Thanks ya'll..

Shipping charges vary with weight and the size of the shipping container. Honestly, I'd just ship via Express Mail, if it's going to a location to which overnight delivery is guaranteed. Even with the rate increase, it should still be under twenty bucks to ship.

Here's how I would pack it...
1)Place the lizard in a deli cup or similar plastic container with some shreds of paper towel.
2) Line a small, plain, cardboard box with styrofoam
3) Use either double-sided tape or a small loop of tape to secure the container to the botom of the box. This will prevent the cup from being unduely jostled while in transit.
4) Fill the rest of the box with loosely crumpled newspaper.
5) Label two opposite sides of the box "Live Harmless Reptiles". Label the other two sides "^ This End Up ^".
6) Somewhere on the box, list the contents: ie, "1 ea. Leopard Gecko; Eublepharis macularius"
7) Bring to the Post Office, and tell them you need to send the box via Express Mail.
If the employee at the counter refuses the package, politely refer them to Section C022.3.2 of the Domestic Mail Manual. This section specifically states that lizards are mailable.
