Taming of snakes
Alright, I have been thinking about this for some time now, and I just want to get other peoples thoughts. Could some time in the distant future, as in not in my lifetime, snakes become truly TAME. I do not mean tolerant and docile, but tame. My reasoning is that dogs were not initially tame, it took MANY generations to get them to the tameness they are now. Could it be that snakes are not "tame" because they do not have enough generations in captivity? Wild caught snakes are not nearly as calm and "nice" as captive bred, so could it be that we are actually going to see snakes that are born already as tame as their parents some day? I am just curious, I do not know how intelligent a snake is vs. a dog. Any thoughts?

If temperments can be 'inherited' genetically and people concentrate on selective breeding to encourage this trait (in my opinion it is as valuable of a trait as 'pretty colors' then yes I think that it could be done. I would think it would take longer than my life time for it to become the norm though.

Yeah, I wouldn't think there is any way in my lifetime I would see that, but my thoughts are, wolves are dogs that haven't been domesticated, so somewhere along the way we have found ways to make them tame...

That is a good point I guess, it is some of the allure they have. If they NEVER bit they would be like having pet giant worms.

um... except not nearly as disgusting...
are you meaning tame as in they never bother to strike at a person or tame is in they'll enjoy someone's company? or some other cariation fo tame?
Puppies and baby snakes are nippy, but you can teach a puppy that biting people is bad, whereas snakes just learn sthat biting a person isn't going to do anything. so... what definition of tame are you meaning?

Well, I have never had a puppy that bites honestly. Sometimes they will get you too hard when they are playing with you, but that is different than an actual defensive bite, which is what baby snakes do.
