Craig and I share the distaste for those who steal other people's pics and use them as their own, as well as lie about their animals...

This is one of my hot button issues as well. I despise thieving of photos. It would not be so bad if it was a "hey look at the pic I found" thread (which I still don't like). But to claim ownership of the animal is also claiming ownership of the photo and is a violation of copyright.

I personally wouldn't mind if someone "barrowed" a pic as long as credit is given to the copyright owner/photographer. In this situation, it doesn't bother me as much since it is an avitar and not someone trying to misrepresent animals in an ad or boldly making a claim of ownership. Still permission should have been sought for it's use and credit given for the pic in his avitar.

But it is a claim of ownership.
This is why I started automatically installing my copyright on all photos to go on the web.

BW, is it any different than using a movie poster as an avitar or some other "neat thing" found on the net? Obviously those who use them probably don't have permission and you generally don't see credit to the owner. Is it really that different because we are reptile intensive that we see this person in the wrong and not those using cartoon characters or movie promo shots?
