Well here goes. I'm prolly way off but... I thought that herp in Latin means one that crawls or slithers then the ologist is one who studies. Ok you all can laugh now

From Dictionary.com:
[Greek herpeton, reptile (from herpein, to creep) + -logy.]
Not too far off, Ed.

Ahem...I believe that's "Alcohologist." Let's check our spelling here on these fake words, people.

The reason I posted is because I find it funny that "herps" these days implies reptiles and amphibians, yet herpeton means reptile only...

True, Riley. But everyone puts reptiles and amphibians together. Books are always on "reptiles and amphibians". I guess there's a notion that since both are supposedly "slimy" and "slithery", they've got to be similiar. Kind off queer conception, but there's language and the human mind for you.

herpeton is greek for anything that crawls or slithers on it's belly...salamaders, newts, hellbenders etc. fit this..frogs and toads are a bit of a stretch.
the word herpes also derived from the same greek word describing how the virus creeps along the nerves.

Thats a scary thought!
Alcohologist sounds like fun though...
Sign me up!
But wait... I cant be an alcoholic because I never go to meetings,
so that makes me just a drunk!
so I can be a Drunkhologist, but then again that means that I would
have to study it and I am just way to lazy for that so... what do I do?
I know... I ll just stick with be'in a:
"Mechanical Clown".
