Strange things happen to those who sleep
ok well i've just woken up and it was a rude awakening i must say. i was off in lala land enjoying a deep sleep when all of a sudden i jolted awake feeling this burning sensation on my leg like someone had laid a redhot fire poker across it, the sensation faded after a few minutes. now there is only a line of a few small red bumps...i'm not really worried about it so much as i am curious because i don't really feel any ill effects from it, but i am at a loss because i've lived here (southeast georgia) my entire life and have never felt anything like that without having actually been burned. does anyone that knows much about the bugs or insects in this area know what kind, if any, could have caused a sensation like that?

being that you live in GA I would ask BW or Brett--they would be aware of what local spiders or creep crawlies would leave marks like that...can you post pics?

No way to really know without you seeing it. But, most likely, it was a spider. Probably a House Spider. Bark Scorpion would be unlikely. I have never heard of anyone ever getting bitten by ONE Fire Ant As long as the bite marks do not get redder or darker and start forming a nice bulls-eye pattern

Ugh...I don't know what could have done this, but since I'm in GA too, this kinda freaks me out...bleh.

i'm pretty sure it wasn't chiggers, mosquitos, or fire ants. the burning was a little bit more intense than any bites from those i've ever had...i could see it being a spider but i've been bitten by spiders before and i've never felt the sensation go on for that long...but i guess it could have been a spider and as chad said it could have been a centipede as well...yeah i'd have to agree that a scorpion seems pretty unlikely, i've never seen those around here, then again way back in the sticks it could be something quite different altogether lol. thanks for all the help folks, maybe next time i'll get a good look at it.
