I went fishing a few times but I was always more interested with the herps around rather then waiting for fish to bite

I caught a 10 pound king mackerel and a whole pile of bonita (trashfish I know but fun to catch) on a McDonalds straw once. That's my favorite lure because it's free! Put a football shaped sliding sinker on the line above a swivel and steel leader. Cut a McDonald's straw in half and fray one end into a skirt by cutting slits about an inch and a half...then put a trebel hook on the end. Stand on the Jetties or wade out a bit in the surf, cast as far out as you can and zing that baby across the top of the water making it jerk and twitch..WHAM! It never fails.
