Without actually having BEEN into that shelter and seen what condition healthwise the animals were in, and knowing enough about the canine flu.. I really cant say WHERE I stand on this.
I am not against euthanasia when it is the only solution to ease a dogs suffering and make passing into the hereafter less of a drawn out painful experience. Why make them suffer?
However, that being said, if this flu was something that was mild, and could be treated with proper medical attention and a few extra community dollars, it would be horribly wrong to euthanize these animals. I could see if the disease/flu was in all cases, fatal.
Lets face it folks, millions of these poor animals are euthanized because they cant find homes, why should it really be OK to euthanize them for that and not for an illness?

The person I blame is the guy that dropped off his sick dog and infected the whole shelter. We have a really nice shelter here, you can sponser pets so they can stay longer and they really care about their animals. A couple of people that worked there had to quit before the dogs died (chicken to me) because they were so upset. The cost of vaccinating them was just too much and the shelter would have been closed a lot longer than it will be anyways. I hated to hear it, and it makes me so sad, but I guess it had to be done. They should quarantine like I do with new animals, but I guess they turn animals over so fast it is not feasible. So sad, seems wrong, but I do not run the world, no matter what I may think. Just makes me keep my dogs a little closer to home these days, in case.
