Here we go again.
Just for your information in Illinois it IS illegal to own ANY crocadilian. Granted it's also illegal to keep snakes over 6' they may be changing it to 8' but still I don't bring my big ones outside for the world to see. NONE OF MY SNAKES ARE OVER 6' (Ya'll Hush Now)
Stupid Pet Owner
Yes I want a crocadilian of some sort but Im not dumb enough to let it outside unattended. All my neighbors know I have snakes and that some are kinda big. but they also know I'm a responsible person to take proper care of them and not to bring them out where some may (would) get scared. Let's get a clue out there. Responsability is the key to preserving our hobby and for some passion. People like this will make even owning a gecko illegal!!!

For the experience of keeping one. Just as with the snakes I like to learn about the animals habits. I guess its the same thing like owning a hot, just the crocadilians cant kill you as babies. They are fascinating animals. Plus I have a serious interest in pursueing herps as a proffesion too.

hehe Well IF i were to get one it would be a smaller variety like dwarf caimen or something similar.
Never know what you can learn? Feeding habits, how they look at us, how they act around us. Just as with the snakes you seem to learn something about them all the time.
Like I said I'm not saying I WILL get one, but the interest is there. And I would NOT buy one. there are plenty in adoptions here. Someone i know in the Chicago area does allot of gator/caimen/ and lately nile crocs. Last count he has 56 crocadilians. Yes he is liscened.

I just learnt the other day that I would legally be able
to keep a 'Salty' ,saltwater croc ,Crocodylus porosus,
in my back yard . I never would ,to me that is crazy ,I don't think
theres anything I could learn from it here, that I couldn't learn from it
in the wild .
Not taking anything away from you Ed .Go for your life,(you might have to one day .hehehe)

Of course I am a croc fan as well. Not too much experience though. I have worked with many crocs as babies (niles, Morletts, spectacled caimens, gators, etc). But about the only experience i have with ones that could actually send you to the hospital is with a 3 foot Nile Croc (not one of my most responsible moments scratching it betwen the eyes), 4 foot Spec Caimen, and i did get to tackle a 5 foot gator to admin meds on its way to a movie. We were a stop off on the way for mainenance and he had bit his tail. I will say that GA has a decent law when it comes to Gators. You can have an educational permit which allows you to keep one gator 3 feet or less. Once it breaks 3 feet, you take it to a gator farm or other authorized facility and trade it out for a smaller one. Great for education, sucks if you get too attached and have to give it up. I have not even persued this permit. Unfortunately, I do not have the facilities right now. Perhaps on the future.

No worries Brian anytime ,just give us some forewarning.
Any particular part of the country or species you will want to be seeing?
I happen to be hitting the shores of the U.S. in about 6 mnths.
Unfortunately Georgia is'nt on the itinerary.
