snake bite stories
i'm kinda bored and was wondering if anyone has any stories about snake bites here's mine
when i was in middle school i had a science teacher that kept several animals in her classroom. she had some snakes with a kinda hard spot on their nose and when the snakes would rub people with it alot of them thought the snake bit them. close to the end of the class everyone understood about this and no one thought the snake would bite them. me and a freind were messing with some frogs then he went to handle the snakes. i followed him. he pulled the snake out of the aquarium and just when i was going to get one out he practically threw the snake at me and said "hold this" i got the snake and a couple seconds after that it bit me. i said to the class hey it bit me. then everyone was like no i didn't it just rubbed you with it's nose. i turned around with the snake hanging from my thumb and started to say somthing when this girl that was standing beside me screamed. the girl made me jump more than the snake did. after i got the snake back in it's aquarium i found out it had bitten my freind too and that's why he got rid of it so quick.

That's funny! My middle-school math teacher kept 2 BP's.
I have only been bitten once by a snake and we all laughed at it. Even as kids, we weren't traumatized by it or anything. My old friend Mike and I used to play in the field behind his house everyday after school. Much of that time was devoted to stompping around in the creek and looking for snakes. Mike was much more experienced in snakes than me and claimed to have previously caught many poisonous ones. Not that I ever took him seriously about the poisonous, but the first time I ever saw him run up and grab a 6' king snake by the tail as it was running away was truely a memorable experience! After that, both of us thought we were 10 foot tall and bulletproof and found snakes everywhere! My first and only bite came from a relatively large common rat snake. This thing was mean!!!!! By this time we had both had a few catch and realeases under our belt and weren't afraid of being bitten (although I hadn't yet, Mike told me it wasn't as much pain as it was shaken nerves). Mike held his arm in front of the snake's mouth canting "do it!" and sure enough, wham! That thing was fast!
My bite wasn't as voluntary, but wasn't unexpected. I was holding him by most of his back end and his head was swinging around with his mouth open and hissing everything. Sure enough, his head whips around grips the inside of my right forearm! He didn't let go immediately and the only thing I could think of was not jerking and damaging it's jaw or teeth. I grabbed it by it's head and wiggled his mouth off...Mike and I were both proud of me that day.
Other than catch and releases, I didn't own my own snake for another 14 years and since then, I haven't been bitten once.

I think my personal favorite was when I was volunteering at a shelter and we got in a 6 foot boa. Everyone was afraid to touch it and I said "oh come on, it's cold...it won't bite". Famous last words.
The second I reached into the box to grab it, the darned snake latched on to my arm. It let go on it's own a few seconds later, before I could even attempt to remove it's mouth from my arm, but WOW, those few seconds felt like an eternity.
I was bleeding all over the place, they made me go to the hospital and get a tetanus shot and the bruise I was left with was pretty astounding.
Ever since then, I have been a bit more cautious and a bit more accurate in where I grab bigger snakes that I am not familiar with hahaha.

My rescued boa took a whack at me on Friday...I was feeding her some rats (shes still really skinny) and I had the 2nd one in the tongs, (Im not an idiot!) and as I went to open the door she struck out and came about a hair from nailing me on the elbow! Little twit! I guess she was really ready for that second rat!!!
My BP was in shed once, and I was handling her while I cleaned out her tank, and she bumped me really hard twice, I finally turned to look at her and her mouth was open and she actually hissed at me!! So she went back in her cage without some of her decorations untill two days later after she shed!

I chased and stepped on a rattle snake when I was two yrs old. I got bit twice on my left calf. Lucky for me my mother didn't panic and was quick to bring me to the hospital. She says I walked up to her and said "mommy mommy the green snake gave me an owie"
