ID Chipping?
Just wondering if any of you have any of your boas or pythons ID chipped, such as your high-value prized possessions like albino, striped, snow, salmon, hypo, etc. Ya know, the kinda thing that vets can do for dogs and cats...
What would be the pros and cons of this?
I've been thinking whether I should have this done or not for my albino boa when I recieve her, just cause I'm a little paranoid. lol
Thanks for advice/info given.

i would say that it cant hurt, but i thought that it was more for dogs and cats because they have to tendancy to run off. If you have the fear of having the snake stolen, then that would be a good idea, assuming that the perp takes the snake to a vet and the vet scans the snake for the chip. I cant see many vets assuming this, but anything is possible.

I know the Bob Clark offers ID chips for the snakes he sells. I'm not sure if a common vet would do micro chipping on a reptile, I wouldn't see why not! This is a very good question, I would definitly micro chip my higher end snakes if it were available to me!

Okay, I didn't think it was a bad idea. I figure any vet could do it as long as they know what they're doing... lol
I just want my albino boa to be safe with me, is all. I doubt any theft would occur but better to be safe than sorry.
I can understand Bob Clark offering ID chips with the snakes he sells because of what happened to him a long time ago with his snakes getting stolen.
I'll wait and see other people's opinions here on this.

Their are many vets that won't let a reptile walk through a door...
I'd hope you already have a reptile specialiat available to you. I would contact him or her to find out what they can do for you.

It is a really good idea for higher end animals. Nothing more than an injection from my understanding so I don't think it has any side effects which would cause any issues with the animal's health.

May seem funny but I just can;t see a common thief taking off with a large snake.... however micro chipping might be a good idea for higher end snakes....but just think of the chances of them actually getting stolen.
a little off topic, I'm waiting for the day when people start micro chipping their children at birth

I don't have any good specific herp/exotic vets around my area. The one vet that was very well experienced with exotics retired and moved to Arizona, so the new guy that is there is young and inexperienced. He ain't wise, I should say. lol

I think theyre already developing that option...but that's more for criminal reasons than for comfort of the parents...
