I think I remember reading about that one.
Supposedly a junior officer had the bridge that night and wanted desperately to show his power off!

Ah Cap...an amusing story, but I'm afraid you fallen victim to an internet hoax:
<TABLE BORDER=0 ALIGN=CENTER WIDTH=85%><TR><TD><font class="pn-sub">Quote:</font><HR></TD></TR><TR><TD><FONT class="pn-sub"><BLOCKQUOTE> This is the transcript of the ACTUAL radio conversation of a US
>>Naval ship and the Canadians, off the coast of Newfoundland, Oct 95. Radio
>>conversation released by the Chief of Naval Operations 10-10-95 </BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE>
or at least a little bit of one...I knew I'd read the story somewhere...p32-33 of The Seven Habit of Highly Effective People credits the story to Frank Koch, publishied in Proceedings, the magazine of the naval institute. 7 Habits is copyrighted 1989. The version there has a battleship captain giving orders to a seaman second class in the lighthouse. But I'm sure military stories are something like fish stories...
Oh yeah, and doesnt mention anything about Canadians...anyone care to guess who stretched the fish on this one?
