Screaming Meanie alarm clock to get only 5 hours of sleep in 52 hours - $15.00
Having a GREAT herping trip - Priceless!
Over the seekend we headed so extreme South GA and North Florida. It has been extreemly dry down here, so we were not expecting much. But we did have a good rain in the late afternoon on Saturday. Great for amphibians, too much for the Pygmy Rattlers to come out, and too little for the Mud Snakes and Rainbow Snakes. There were more frogs and toads than we could count. The night rang out with the sounds of Chorus Frogs and Cricket Frogs and the occasional fat Bullfrog bellowing. We did have one heartbreaker on the way home. We found a DOR (Dead on Road) Sulfur Yellow Coachwhip . The only live snake we caught was a beautiful cottonmouth. This little girl was so fat with babies that she looke like a sausage! Of course we let her go on her way. Afterwards, I realized that I forgot to even get a pic. We will have to go back to that swamp hole soon to see some of her little babies And we did manage to catch a few nice little turtles (at the expense of a pair of my sunglasses ) The highlight were the gators. There isnothing int he world like seeing a gator in the wild. We saw about 6 of them and camped next to one. We also found a great site with 3 gopher torts and snake slides all around them. Definately worth another trip to see what they are. Indigos? Hopefully! As a side note. For any of you who do field hunting. Get a Midwest Professional Field Hook! It is like a Turbo Charged Stump Ripper! Happy herping and hopefully I will be able to get back out there soon (thanks to my GPS )

I almost forgot. On the way back from SwamY's house (venomous herpin buddy) I decided to hit a couple back roads off I-20. On the first one, I found a beautiful 4' to 4.5' Black Ratsnake crossing the road. You can see exactly where I found him if you look the skid marks I will have pics of him soon.
You might be an avid herper if you have ever set off your airbags stopping for a snake

Wow, sounds like a great trip to me! That coachwhip sounds like an AWESOME colubrid. I have seen pics of the light red ones, but not a sulfur!! Cool! The gators would be excellent as well.
Do you have to have that little sleep to go, or can you come even if you've had 8??

Man, if I lived in such a good area for herping, I would put 75,000 miles on my car every year and it would never get above 15 MPH!
