A truly FAST bike was the kaw, H2 Mach IV. it was an in line triple 750 cc 2stroke. the only reason the Buell put out what they do is because the exhaust is actually set up to vary the back pressure at different rpm/loads. busa is quick. but if you note, in my original post, i did say normally aspirated, this does not include turbocharging, supercharging, nitrus or any kind of blower on the motor. but anything over 1hp per CI is really good. now think, 1200 cc=74ci, claiming more than 80-85hp on a 74ci is VERY hard to swallow. My '76 honda cb750 puts out approx 55-60 hp, but 87 ft/lbs torque! now anyone who knows about speed, knows that TORQUE, not hp is what you want for accel. Torque is what you feel. hp is really just top speed. who want a bike that does 200mph if it takes you 30 min to get there???

Torque is important but as far as quickness vs top speed, its mostly in the gearing. A sprocket change can do wonders.

most people don't realize that..... gearing can turn a slow accelator into a quick off the line vehicle but in the end you'll be sacraficing some top end speed in your gearing unless you get an overdrive gear or something or you maintain the last gear at stock I suppose.... but also most people don;t realize that HP really doesnt mean a fast acceleration where as Touque is what realy matters in turms of quickness.....

Gearing is a compromise, you choose between quickness and top speed. Personally I would have no need of any speed beyond what I could reach in 1/4 mile, others would choose higher top ends.

So true. Remember the old 1987 through 1993 mustangs?? Drive on on the interstate with the stock 2.73 gear then drive one with an aftermarket 4.10 gear. Huge difference. The 4.10 will get you off the line way quicker and up to 100 mph plus quicker but the 2.73 will go the distance and keep the rpm's way lower. Just takes it a while to get there.
