What is your favorite sports car?
What is your favorite sports car?
My favorite sports car would have to be the McLaren F1. I will never be able to buy one of these cars but I still love them.
The philosophy behind the F1 road car was simple - to be the finest drivers car ever built, or ever likely to be built. This meant producing a car not only with outstanding performance but one versatile and usable as an everyday vehicle. The McLaren F1 benefited from World Championship Formula One technology and experience and was the world's first production road car to feature an all carbon composite monocoque and body structure. This unique material combines the low weight necessary for performance with exceptional strength to exceed demanding industry safety requirements. McLaren Cars commissioned the BMW S70/2 engine, designed and built specifically for the F1. This 6.1 liter, quad-cam, 48-valve V12 power unit produces no less than 627 bhp and drives through a bespoke six-speed transaxle gearbox. Radical design features include: central driving position, ground-plane shear suspension geometry, intelligent brake cooling and fan-assisted ground-effect aerodynamics. In March 1998, the F1 confirmed that it is the fastest production car in the world, achieving a record top speed of 240.14mph. It can go 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds.
Take care
Tom

Ferrari Enzo which is along the lines of the 288 GTO, the F40, and the F50. Those were the pinnicle of preformance for Ferrari and the Enzo is no slouch. Only 400 were made and to get one originally you had to have been a loyal Ferrari customer, but for a top speed of 217 or so one can understand that.
Second would be the Jaguar XJ220. There is one here in Birmingham and it gets serviced where I have my vehicles serviced. Sleek little vehicle.

Only problem with the McLaren cars is they don't have room for your hot girl! (last time I checked). However when it comes to choosing my favorite sports car I don't look at just performance but how much bang you are getting for you buck.
Enzos, McLarens, Carrera GTs, etc are all awesome supercars and nothing can really come close. However, if you look at how much car you are getting for your dollar there are better options(not saying if I had in excess of 1 million cash to spend on a car I wouldn't get the Enzo hehe, just to make that clear). Personally right now I think the car with the MOST performance for your money is hands down the new 2006 Z06 Corvette. You can't beat that much power and performance for 65,000. I can't think of one car that can really compare to it that isn't more than twice the price.
Runner up would have to be the British M12 Noble. I would rate it better than the 2006 Z06 but the Corvette has all the creature comforts of A/C, power steering, etc. The Noble is a race car and of course everything that could be spared, was... lol
Personally I'm doing fine with my civic Of course had to throw a turbo on it with fuel management, built bottom end, boost controller, etc. Unfortunately the bottom end is having compression issues right now and needs to be worked on. At 10-12psi I should be able to squeek out 250-300 hp which is a lot of power for a 2600 pound car imo(especially considering power for price).
Anyway, nice topic Oh and that new Bugatti I thought was a 12 cylinder, quad turbocharged car? The Ferraris are greatly superior to it imo, and they are N/A. Anyone can turbocharge a car to some insane horsepower, 1000 hp supras are a dime a dozen(ok not literally but you get the idea)

I found something interesting while looking for stats on the Enzo.
So far 3 have known to have been wrecked (a yellow one was the first). One confirmed here in the states where the owner allowed his son to drive it and with only 353 miles on it it sustained approximately $400,000 in damages.
Pictures are here (not for the weak though) http://www.wreckedexotics.com/enzo/e...0205_001.shtml

Get the SL65. Trust me on this more horsepower and less of a chance you will run into another one in the supermarket parking lot. 604 hp and you can pick one up for around 160k with around 2k miles on it.
