So, instead of a Dog and Pony show you're talking about a Scale and Slither Show with Blue Ribbons and the works?

Thats what pics are for!
Why would anyone that cares about their reptiles want to introduce them to a crowded, noisey area, adding stress along with the possibility of unknown germs etc. from other snakes etc, along with the realization that not every snake in the world sheds on the same cycle?
Too hard to predict if your snake will be just perfectly shed, or in full blue for that type of event, and for the things to look at that you pointed out, well, that is a lot of people that would be handling a lot of snakes adding even more to their stress level along with a greater chance for cross contamination.

I think shows that are just for fun, judged based on the judges own opinion, would be fairly easy to organize, but any kind of serious show might be difficult. Dogs and cats have breed standards by which they are judged. It might be hard to establish a standard for reptiles, because different people like different colors, amount of speckling, etc. So, would a winning BCI have to have more or less speckling? More yellow, or more silvery-grey? Wide saddles or thin? I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm just saying that a "breed standard" would have to be established. Otherwise, a judge could pick something they like, but an owner might get upset because they think their snake is prettier. Even though it's not for money, you'd be surprised how upset people get if a show isn't judged fairly.

You also gotta think just how hard it would be to prove genetics, which unlike K9s are NOT set to standards such as the K9s are.
