Jungle Carpet Question

Ok.

My JCP (most beautiful JCP in the world mind you) is about a year old and 5'2'' long. However, he's as skinny as could be. Not sick or hungry skinny, he downs small rats like there's no tomorrow and is parasite free. He has great muscle tone...
BUT he's just so #$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^& skinny. I feel that with his length I should be giving him big rats but can't because of his lack in gerth.
So, my questions are...
1) how wide in gerth do they get and when do they start filling out? The breeder who sold him to me and the books I read all said that once he finishes shooting out in length he'll start filling out. Is this true?
2) how long should they get and when can I expect him to start fatening up?

Hey Sean I've found out with JCP's you can feed a little larger than the girth rule we normally follow with Boa's!! JCP's are not known to regurge and will suprise you with what they can swallow!!! Maybe instead of giving 2 smaller item's give one larger item! Lenght they usally max out around 7 feet give or take a couple feet each way!! Also every JCP I've seen start's out being real skinny and fill's out later. Sound's like you are off to a good start with your girl!!

	regurgitate Throw up. Reptiles will regurge when they feel they are in danger or if they have some sort of health issue. If your reptile has regurgitated his/her food please seek help!

Carpets are AWSOME! I just got 1.1 coastals last weekend, man, they look skinny, compared to boas, I know what you mean seany. I agree Shad, they can eat larger items compared to same size BCI. -Juggalo

Carpets kick #$%^&#$%^&#$%^&! Mine is at about 4 1/2' in length, or so she seems to be, and she's downing small rats and they only put a slight bulge in her. She stays curled up on her perch the majority of the time, so she looks smaller than she really is. It's her girth that throws me off. I thought she was 3' all this time until she stretched out one day and I realized how big she really was. Honestly, I don't know if she's bigger than 4 1/2' because the girth throws me off, but that seems to be about right. And yes, carpets aren't prone to regurges, so they can take considerably large meals for their size. I've seen adult carpets at 7' and they're only as thick as a 5' boa and their girth is about as big as a large rat. But, consider yourself lucky that your carpet is even eating rats to begin with. Probably won't really start filling out till she is close to
her max. length ,around 2,1/2 to 3 year mark (six to eight feet).

Bensnacks, mine is at the two year mark and more like black/very yellow. [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif[/img] On my monitor, she is very yellow and it's actually quite close to her actual coloration. But on this monitor, her yellow looks quite faded. But basically, her yellow is about the same intensity as a Wendy's french fry cup.
