wonderful petshop down the road (not)...

I was just at the local petshop (PetCo) tonight and was looking at the snakes they had. There were three Ball Python cages, two with young ball pythons, one with a 2 foot long ball python. The first cage I looked in, there was a single snake which looked like it was in the middle of a shed. That wouldn't be a problem, really, if it wasn't dead. Yes, the python was dead and the employees did nothing. The other snakes, only the large ball python and one of two hoonduran milk snakes looked healthy. I was quite #$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^& off about this, but found no one to yap at, so I left. Last time I get anything there (including non-animal items)....Supposedly, from what a sign near the reptiles says, the reptiles are taken care of by an animal hospital in Vacaville. Great how they took care of the dead python. Oh well, I just thought I might rant a little...

I just sent an email to the Solano County SPCA. I'm still going to call them tomorrow. The thing that gets me is that they post the name of the veterinary hospital that supposedly takes care of the snakes. Sick...

The petco by where I work does the same thing (posting information about the veterinary service that cares for the animals.) They do a really good job (SARCASM!) One girl that worked there told me that the employees are supposed to recommend this vet, but she would not.

I HATE PETCO!!! I reported the one in Massapequa, NY not too long ago for the same thing. You HAVE to report them and follow through with it. They really shouldn't get away with that kind of stuff.

I was just in Petco the other day and they had about 5 baby balls
one was dead the others infested with mites..enclosures were disgustingly

I wanted to complain to management but didn't believe they would
do anything..So do you think contacting the SPCA would get their
attention? This is the second PETCO in my area where I've seen conditions
like these. I don't shop there, but when I'm near by I go in just to see
how the animals are being cared for and usually the results are this!!

I think calling the SPCA will help over time, they just need to be called a lot. One complaint isn't going to do much, but if a lot of people start complaining about the same store, they'll put out a full investigation. I'm also going to write letters to the editors of the local newspapers. Maybe that will help too...

Hey Beau!! I'm back from my vacation. We went over to PetCo today and saw they had a hatchling African Rock and a Reticulated python. [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif[/img] crazy store....

Yeah, its like hit and miss over there...one week they've got healthy reptiles, the next they've got unhealthy reptiles...oh well...I'll wait until the Sacramento show...I've got to get a larger tank for Tas.....

UPDATE: Humane Animal Services of Vacaville are opening an investigation on PetCo of Vacaville. They just called me to get a little more info and said they'll send a humane officer over to investigate.
