Some People
I was watching Americas Funniest Videos today and the animal segment came on and I always like watching animals do funny stuff. But anyways there was a BP and it was cruising around its cage and then a med-small rat started walking up and down its body, and they thought it was funny and to make things even worse another rat climbs on and the whole time the snake is trying to get away. Some people these days don't care about their animals, they olny like watching this "funny" stuff and that makes me mad. Just wanted to get this off my chest.

I can't watch those types of shows anymore, especially the one that comes on animal planet. I see so many animals in unsafe situations, it makes me sick... and it's so irresponsible of the networks to show them. I could almost let it fly on every other network, but I can't stand some of the stuff that Animal Planet allows on their shows.

Watched a show on Animal Planet late the other night about big snakes and some guy I think called Austin Stevens. What a joke! I swear he made more people freak about big snakes than taught anyone anything. Not the first time I've wondered what Animal Planet is thinking with some of their shows. If anyone should be responsible, checking their facts and putting out solid, reliable information you'd think it would be something called "Animal Planet"...geesh!

Did you see that show where he was flippently handling all sorts of venomous snakes? In one segment it showed him getting tagged by a cobra, I think. He just stood up with WIDE eyes and said, "Guys, I've been bite....I've been bite". He was like...I just can't believe it! I guess it was to show the public how NOT to do it (just kidding!). LOL.

He SA's version of Steve Irwin, throwing out all the don't ever do this rules then doing it anyway so you're average kid who sees that then sees a rattler etc gets the ohhh it can't be that bad attitude and bang bite hospital, think we should stick to people like mark o'shea who say don't freehandle without head restraint and don't freehandle without head restraint. But yes austin steven's sidewinder bite was a highlight and if you've seen the retic documentry how i wish he'd been had by that as well.

Just funny how he was jupin around when the retic was going easy on him, lunging but only 1/2 hearted i mean it was like 20ft and just rearing up and moving slowly if it'd wanted it could've done him i reckon - pity it didn't, i just think a lot of these herp shows are there to hype up the scare factor of snakes and are too commericailised but that's just my opinion!

Corwin is goofy ...silly...but by far the best handler. He's at least careful with them and makes great effort not to harm the animals. Personally, I'm more concerned at how the animal is treated than I care what personal danger these guys put themselves into. I'm convinced that most of them use planted venomoids for the shows anyway so when they do stupid stunts with hots, I don't exactly scoot to the edge of my seat. I know Irwin does. I'm not impressed. Mark Oshea is a rough handler. He thrashes them around...ever see the one where he dove in after a water python...wrestled the snake underwater...got tangled in some roots and nearly drowned (supposedly) Then dragged the snake back to the boat by the neck and climbed in the boat with the 10+ foot python by the neck in one hand slamming it's poor head against the side of the boat as he crawled in the boat on top of it? Poor snake. Ever see the one where he caught a small lizard, pulled it's tail off to show that they drop tails? His word would have been fine lol...then he ate the tail...freak! I don't like Oshea, Irwin and especially Austin Stephens...but I do give Irwin props for his widespread popularity shedding some light on conservation...somehow through his antics a great deal of the masses who normally would kill any snake they see, because of watching his shows and rethinking their stance on snake's right to live will now call for a safe removal...especially the women fans. Oshea is more a herper's guy...more information-no antics...boring for the nonherpers, a bit upsetting for those that like to see animals handled gently. Corwin again...entertaining, draws a huge nonherper crowd, handles gently ...uses planted snakes though. I really don't think Jeff uses voids. I don't think Oshea does either..I think Oshea actually catches what he says he's out catching too..no plants-nothing staged. Irwin and Austin...all staged, all a load of crap. What ever happened to Harry Butler? He's an old aussie that had a show in the 80s. I liked him.

Just out of curiosity how do you know they are planted or not. I know Irwin stages most of his stuff from some cheesy scene when he was running behind a komodo dragon and it was "chasing" a meal, but you never see the two in the same frame at all. Anyways how do you know Corwin sages, how can you tell with snakes?
