passion of the christ and boa
well i got to thinking today, and i remember watching Passion of the Christ. and the scene when the devil tries to talk Jesus out of what he was doing really stayed in my mind. if i remember correctly, a boa slid out from under satans legs. at the time, i didnt think much of it but now that i have a bci, i think it totally pulls people away from snakes. it shows the snake a something evil when its totally the opposite. i am a christian, but i have never thought that snakes are evil. i mean, if satan showed up in the garden of eden as the form of a dog, would you really think that dogs are evil? and later on in the scene Jesus stomps the snake's head. i guess you can view it as jesus overcoming evil. poor snake... hehe im just ramabling on typing out loud.

well, I haven't seen the movie yet. (probably will later). But you gotta figure they used a boa because they couldn't use a real venomous snake. The picture of snake used in an "evil" sense goes back to when Moses raised the snake on a pole, changed his staff to a snake, and of course when God changed Satan to a snake to crawl on his belly.
Taking all these counts to light, it's no wonder people shy away from snakes. But they are still God's creatures. I know they were created before God even changed Satan to one. I think it was just a humiliation factor there, and even then I believe it may have been a cobra since they're usually the most calculating of all snakes.
Oops, I'm rambling. Before anyone gets on my case. I do love ALL snakes. I think even those aforementioned cobra's are beautiful and fascinating.
But, bigballin, you're right. they're just not thinking on the "higher" plain.

The snake is also a good symbol as it is used in medical symbols. Here are some pictures and links where I found them.

P.S. I always knew snakes where good even as a baby.
Take care

This, of course, goes back to my referance of Moses holding the staff with the snake upon it. People had to go to the staff and look at it to be healed.
And the article was interesting.

That about says it all in my opinion.
BTW...a note on that article.
This is a serious pet peeve of mine...snakes are not poisonous for Christ’s sake. People who write and are published quoting "the poisonous snake" did whatever makes me cringe. Frogs, plants and jellyfish are poisonous. Snakes and spiders are VENOMOUS!! Good god..anyone can get published these days. It's an important distinction to be made.
Another thing...saying that the fear of snakes is an inborn trait is conjecture at best. Even hard-core geneticist will tell you there is far too much unknown about emotions and the human genome to make that kind of conclusion.

That's an old pet peeve of mine, too.
In education, we say "poison in ingested, venom is injected" to help people make that distinction.
And if fear of snakes is hardwired, I must be lacking that particular gene... I've been playing with little grass and garter snakes since I could walk.

Actually my dictionary interchanges the words venomous and poisonous, but Im sure your right....What about fear of spiders, I think more people are afraid of spiders then snakes....I know I dont mind tarantulas but I am very creeped by those little spiders in my garden.
BTW speaking of the bible..I USED to go to church and I remember one guy preaching and bragged about how he backed his truck up so he could run over a snake in the road ..OMG what a flippin lunatic...Of course this same pastors wife thought cats were of the devil because they have creepy eyes...

Oh, don't even get me started.
Okay, too late.
I took a bald eagle to an eagle scout court of honor last week. I went through the whole spill about how horrible it is that eagles were killed out of ignorance and how beautiful they are and how we need to protect them. Then I took questions. One old guy in the front row raised his hand and bragged about how he had killed tons and tons of eagles back in the day. He was just so proud of himself. It made me sick.

Actually, from what I remember it was an Albino burm, but I'd have to see it again. I've seen it a couple times and remember that part well. I'm pretty sure it's an Albino Burm.

It was indeed an albino burm that "Jesus" crushed under foot in the garden of gethsemene.
On another note about that movie; that was the most viscious thing I have ever seen. Violence under the name of Christ and it's ok, but put violence under the name of Vin Diesel and you're the reason kids are shooting each other all over this country.

Well, I couldn't help it, I had to post some that happend in Israel like 3 weeks ago.
Some stupid guy (sorry for the "stupid" I still don't know the rules of the forum) took his burm python out for a walk, he was drunk, he went to the mall or something like that with him, and started threating people that if they'll come any closer, he will tell the snake to bite them AND that the snake will listen to him WILL do it.
I laughed alot until I got to the part where the media post a picture in that article.
It was a picture of a VIPER.
Now, in Israel, the snake business is really really BAD, I mean: just think that the only boa you can here is a BCI........
Now: I really got #$%^$%^$%^$%^$%^$%^& off when thet did that, 'coz actually they were saying: "It was a poisonous snake".
Anyway, we had some letters sent to writers of the article, but got no respond.
It's the less that people know: the more they are scared.
the only thing we (in Israel) can do about it is to enlarge the awareness.
But we are nothing but like 6000 people out of 7,000,000 in Israel. (I know, the numbers are small, both of them, but hey, we are small too ...)
I don't know if it's like that there, but when I say: "I own a snake" the first t | |
