I just went to the shop to price them out since I did not want to spend alot of money on a 22. But when you comeacrosss a good deal, you have to go for it. A Ruger 10/22 with a Ramline folding stock and a nice 9x scope for $125.
By far, one of the toughest 22s I have seen. I still need a new mag (the standard 10 rounder just won't do). Hopefully I will get a chance to sight it in this weekend and put a couple hundred round through it to see how it shoots. I need to find a nice case for it. The folding stock makes it much easier to keep around since I have to have it often, even if it is a snake call where there is no chance needing it. The law is the law imp:

I went out and bought the buttler creek foleing stock for my 10/22. Good luck with it. 10/22's are great guns for varmits and reliable to boot. You can get the ramline 30 rounders or 50 rounders for cheap. I have had more luch with the 30's since they jam A LOT less!!!

Those are awesome and relatively cheap to boot. We have 2 of those, a regular one(not ranch style) and a GB folder which once belonged to an Oklahoma sheriff. Nice guns. Big brother to the 10/22 and the Mini 30 is the big brother to both. In my oppinion the best home defense gun is the Wilson Combat. We just picked up one used for 1,700 and still great condition. Everything is smooth as silk and guarenteed to shoot a 1" group at 25 yards before leaving the factory. Can't wait to fire off that baby!!! 45 acp and that accurate is hard to believe. We have a 12 gauge remington 870 that we put a butler creek folder on that we bought at a gun show and had a friend of ours weld a bayonett lug on the shell tube under the barrel. It holds a regular ar-15 bayonett, now thats home defense. Around 26" folded so that it is compact triple ot buck shoot I believe. It holds 18 round I believe including all the add ons on the sling and actual receiver. Cut the pump thing so it can be shot folded. About the Desert egals(how ever thats spelled) I held one the other day and my hand started turning red and my fingers got puffy, maybe it was the metal. I wouldn't recomend it for home defense unless your walls are solid steel. lol

I've been reading up on .223's and most forums I've read say to stick to the AR-15 style as opposed to the Mini-14s. Much more accurate and long ranges and overall a better manufactured gun. I'm not necessarily talking about Colt, but also Olympic Arms, Bushmaster, etc. Any thoughts?

We bought a colt years ago with a heavy barrel and we were shooting pumpkin in the field at 200-300 yard with little misses out of the stock sites. We checked the ranges with a range finder so maybe not exact but the point is they are acurate. I really like the ar-15 but they are so common, I would buy a well managed used gun since the ar's take so many rounds and oil to get it broken in well where it feeds perfectly everytime. We have 2 ar's, 2 mini 14s, and a profesional ordinance carbon 15. These were made before bushmaster started making them. Basically a pistal version of the AR and acurate, VERY LOUD!!!
Look at the bottom of this of the guy shooting one. We have only shot ours during the day so you can only see the flames lightly, but that is how they are supposed to be at night

I really dislike Mini-14's...Wont go into WHY I hate them, but if ya shoiot one 10-15 times, ya might figure it out...
Gimme an AK anyday...Brute strong, and easily maintianed...
Yea I hate Ar-15's as well...THe Kel_tec Su16C is nice...Uses Ar mags, but does away with the crappy gas system...
If ya need 30 rounders for the 10-22 the give Cheaper Than Dirt a buzz...They have them for $9.95 a shot plus shipping...I ordered 20 of them and havent had any trouble with them...

Ya cheaper than dirt is great. I really like the veper ak47's. They are a machine gun receiver without the "magic parts" which can be bout on e-bay or auction arms for cheap-Hint-Hint-. Not saying its a good idea but it can be done using a welder, drill, and a dremil tool with the right parts and information. Stupid Idea since you get like 15 years per fully automatic firearm. I like the AR-30's as they have the same feeling and smooth action of an AR-15 but just in .308 caliber. We also have the springfield m1a in .308 and talk about accurate!!! Shooting bulls eyes on a 5" by 5" targets at 500 yards with a basic leopald scope. If you want to buy ammo in bulk just look up georgia arms. My dad orders cases of ammo and has them shipped freight here all the time and a very nice guy. I would perfer a colt over bushmaster or olympic arms since they are IMO the wellest built ones. Maybe we should start a new fourm or maybe get a section here made for hunting and firearms talk. That would be the best site ever. Herps and firearms in one, my 2 favorite things besides money!!!
