of course, now you go me started.
My "Glove Box Buddy". CZ 40P, .40 Cal.

Found it marked as used at a HUGE discount. Of course, when I opened it up, it still had packing grease in it Shame to have that nice rail with nothing on it
And my in-house hole puncher. Taurus 92 9mm with a 15 round mag.

By far, my favorite gun I have ever owned. Perfect balance, Hogue grips, tight grouping, and of course, nice and shiny so any cleaning oversight stares you right in the face.
But I am set up to sight in the .22 on Sunday. We'll see how that badboy shoots.

Now that's more my style!! I don't quite get the .22 guns. Unless it's point blank, it can't do enough damage, well, that's as far as I know. It might work well on animals, and I don't intend on shooting any animals, and that's probably why it doesn't make sence.... mmm... does this post make sence?
Love your Taurus. I want to get a Generals edition 9mm, one day when I'm big. For now I'll keep my 38 special stubby. She's a fine weapon... just hardly ever get's used.

Two words...."tack driver". At 50 yds with decent scope, I was putting all the rounds thru an area the size of a postage stamp. They ususally have sub minute-of-angle accuracy out of the box!
I have my "sights" set on a .40 Glock right now. Saving those pennies!

Nice guns BW ... my personal choice in hand guns for "self protection" are my new model 35 glock tatical model... with two 10 rnd clips & one 15 rnd clip and the speed loader isa dream.
2nd choice is the elephant hunter as me and my friends call it ..... ??? whats that ya say ... the baddest handgun known to man lol and made in israel ??? Dessert Eagle .44 mag when this bad boy goes off if the bullet misses them the concussion knocks them out lol and if they have more then one you can line them up and surely take out more then 5 with one shot lol not cheap to shoot but let me tell you when you walk in the indoor range and blast of 10 rounds out of that clip people WILL stop and come to see if you are shooting a 50 cal lol

Desert Eagle is a formidable weapon. I shot the .50 cal at the range. Nothing like a 4' fireball. You are right aboutt he concussion. I was standing a couple feet away in the next bay from someone shooting one and it felt like I got punched in the chest. The .454 Casull Revolver is one that I never want to shoot again
We have a Firing Range up in Athens (UGA) where you can rent fully automatic weapons. Two words ........ Ammo's Expensive! In one day I dropped about $500 there in ammo for the autos (M16, M60, MP5, Thomson .45, Mac10, Uzi 9mm, HK G3, and a few others). The Tommy was the most fun No practical use for an auto, but man is that fun!
I think this the first firearm thread.

Auto matics & the Single shot 50 cal
I hear ya there BW my buddy bought the BIG BEAR single shot 50 cal with nightvision scope on it lol 1500 yrds you could knock out a small vehicle with the AP shells lol i told him it was a waste of $5200 for the setup when one shell is around 9-10 a shot lol
Now the autos are back I wanna add a nice AR15 bushmaster or along those lines to the home security system here lol I have a pre ban full auto SKS russian model with 50 rnd clips ... ( you can brand 10 cattle after firing that bad boy off lol with the barrel alone )
you mentionedthe 454 ? was that the "taraus raging bull" the lil pocket gun lol he has one of those and MY GOD it will rip your arm off shooting a gun that holds a 4" bullet thats all chamber no barrel lol

I believe that for home defense the 12 gauge shotgun loaded with #4 buck is the best choice, followed by a .45 ACP. Anything else has either too much penetration and is likely to punch through your target, the wall, and possibly your neighbor's wall (such as 5.56 or 7.62 mm), or not enough muzzle energy to ensure a one shot stop (such as 9mm).

.40 Cal actually is one of the highest rated defense weapons (aside from a shotgun). It has an 89%-96% one shot stop rate (depending on Ammo).
Alan, yup Raging Bull. About tore my arm off.

but what about the penetration? I've never had a .40 so don't know much about it. A .357 stops very well too but too much penetration for my taste. Does the .40 penetrate more like a .357 or like a .45?

Your 10/22 will do what you need it for just fine. I have owned about 15 of them over the years and they are a very dependable gun. I don't really see the need for a magazine with more than a 10 round capacity for dispatching a trapped animal though. They are fun at the range, but unless you plan on holding off 10 people trying to assault your house they aren't very practical and actually draw unwanted attention to the gun by making it look more like an assault weapon. I have hunted and killed wild pigs with a 22LR revolver and dogs before and if it will dispatch a 200lb pig with one shot it should easily do the same with a racoon.
Just try not to shoot yourself in the foot
