Someone wants to trade a pair of my striped redtail babes, for a pair of "blue redtails" can anyone shed some light on me regarding this. I've not heard of them before.

Who knows what people have done to get the morphs or supposed morphs they have. I never heard of a blue redtail. For all we know they could have covered the prey with blue food coloring hoping the snake would absorb it into their skin pigment.????????? Definately get pics cuz i know Id like to see them

Some boas have a greyish hue that resembles a light shade of blue. This is most often seen in Hog Island and Tumbes boas.

Someone tried to sell me some "High Orange" Ball Pythons once. Nice bright orange color. Too bad it was because they were soaked in Gatorade! It is kindof a dead giveaway when only the bottom half is orange and the mouth is orange Not saying anything about the blue red tails, you just reminded of that and it is something that I have seen quite a bit. Watch out. Maybe next time I can get a pic of one.

Unfortunately, I have seen CONS way tooo often. You can change a snakes color by simply soaking it in Kool-Aid. You can get a "Berry Blue" boa. It works for about any liquid with artificial colors. As long as it does not kill the snake of course (don't try this at home with red wine ) I have seen WAY too many pet stores trying to pull this (especially in Gainseville, GA, not to name names) But these RTB's probably just have a nice blue tint to them. If they were listed as "Blue Phase" I would be more cautious. I think that you are doing the right thing.

If you dont know the person or their rep than you're taking a chance of losing out. There are some blue shades in redtails. Actually Flnavy guy just had a few imports shipped this way and one of them is blue. It came from a reputable source who claims it came straight from Suriname that previous week. Being that its a baby I wouldnt be surprised if the color eventually changed. I would love to see what this boa looks like in a few years.

If you do the deal with this person make sure they send there boas first then only after you see them will you send your boas. This way if it is fake or you do not like what the blue boas look like you do not lose your boas.

My 2 male bci have a blue hue to them, very pretty but hard to catch with a camera. I'm not talking iridescence, either. Their scales on the sides look blue in the sunlight...there is pink, too, but the pink is in its own little pattern...very interesting. But I wouldn't call them 'blue boas', just very pretty normals. Definitely be careful with this, don't get scammed. Good luck!
