Advice for buying high priced animals over the internet

Hello everybody!

I am thinking about buying some rather expensive animals over the internet. There are some things that I expect need to occur BEFORE I send any money, and several contingencies that need to be agreed to. I am looking for any input from others regarding my expectations, and to see if there is anything that I might have missed. So far, I have:

1. A clear photograph
2. A required clean-bill of health certificate from MY vet
3. Guaranteed feeding within 2-3 weeks of arrival
4. A written and signed contract between the buyer and seller that covers costs, returns, shipping, breech, etc.

Is this asking too much, or are there glaring holes in this? I appreciate any and all input.

This is what I ask

1. photo of animal
2. photo of parents
3. Live arrival guarantee
4. healthy animal (if not healthy I return it)
5. feeding history
6. animal size
7. paperwork from original breeder if applicable.

I do not ask for a contract....it is not necessary.
I just save all e-mails....and if anything goes wrong and they screw me...I run to the BOI

NO BODY has screwed me over yet.


actually all the stuff I ask for just depends on the person I buy from.

right now...I am in the process of acquirring a 1.2 of 66% het for kahl boas.
I did not even ask for photographs....
The guy I am getting them from....got them off of Jeff Ronne (the boaphile)
I am not even asking him for paperwork.

I did not ask him a thing...I just said "I want 1.2 66% het for kahl......how much?

	Heterozygous Heterozygous - the animal carries the gene for a genetic trait but does not outwardly demonstrate the trait. Example: A boa that is het for albino looks normal but carries the albino gene. When it is bred to another het for albino boa or an albino boa, a percentage of the offspring will be albino.

I agree with everything Ritchie just said. Especially about Jeff Ronne you can trust Jeff with anything. I have never done business with him but look forward to in the future.

Im with Ritchie on this one. Before you do anything ask around for references and check the BOI. I personally wouldnt buy high end reptiles from an "unknown" so if ya cant find out any info on the seller then you really need to think hard on it. Also you didnt mention what type of high end animals......if it includes hets of any type then you're taking a big chance unless you buy from a reputable breeder.
