After having my exhibition permits for several years, DNR finally granted me my American Alligator addendum.  Here is my new girl.

She is a little skittish when I first pick her up, but as soon as I get a proper grasp on her, she calms right down. She has not event ried to bite yet. Right now, she is just under 2'.
How big will she get? There is no way to tell. But she is from a very unique clutch. On average, gators get between 10-15'. This entire clutch is stunted. One of the only clutches that I am aware of. She is 4 years old and just under 2'. Normally Gators grow at a rate of 1'-1.5' per year. So she is basically a dwarf gator and should give me many years of educational programs. I do, however, have the space and resources available for an adult gator even of she does get 14' long. The process of getting a permit for an Alligator in Georgia is not easy. You have to have several years of other permits, the experience and ability, and some very good references from members of Dept of Natural Resources. She will be a valuable asset to my public education programs and a joy to care for. Even for a gator that small, her enclosure will top over $500 and by far the highest maintenance animal I care for. Crocodilians are DEFINATELY not for most people.

i love gators, this guy had a 7 footer that he could pick up and hug and kiss. SHe was awesome.

I love gators too, but I just don't see myself hugging and kissing a 7 footer.
