It looks like a cottonmouth to me. I would need a better look at the head and which region it was seen in. But, it looks a lot like a cottonmouth from the pattern I can see.

yep, I'd go with the cottonmouth "theory". The head in your picture seems a lot larger.

It is a watersnake. Eyes are set too far forward and up high for a cottonmouth. But at the angle of the picture it does have a cottonmouth like appearance.

In Covington, it is a Midland (Northern) Watersnake. Very common.
