how do you know when a rat is about to or close to giving birth?

sorry, its been a long day!
Usually I would see them in the corner or in their little hides (I put cardboard boxes for them to hide in and rip apart back in my rat breeding days) and the mom will sit and breath hard in labor. The back end should be swollen up like they swallowed an orange you know it's getting close. Once they start tho, watch out! There will be babies all the time. good luck!

A feeder rat just gave birth a week ago, but she ate them and it made me mad. So, the rat met Merlin the RTB.
