Actually, the bite of a black widow can be much worse than that of a brown recluse. Some people have more of a tolerance to brown recluse bited and therefore have nothing more than a red spot. With some, tissue may have to be removed. The black widow however has been known to kill small children and the elderly and can cause severe illness for days after the bite. Here in Southern Illinois, we have both species in abundance. I hate spiders with a passion.

He probably put the snake outside while waiting for the paramedics. All this sounds to me like a failed spouse-icide attempt. Now he's trying to scare her into leaving by letting her think the snake is still at large in the house...all the while maintaining the macho hero snake hunter/caring husband image. I just don't see a cottonmouth nosing his way into a closed toilet to lie in wait. I guess since she lived, next week maybe a badger will chew through her brake lines?
