A Story
Here is a story, make of it what you may.
I have a friend named Roxie, i rescently told here of a pair of rtb's i plan on buying. "Really" she replies, "i had a use to have a ball python", well i tell here of my old pet rtb, and her 7.5 ft of beauty. "7.5 ft, thats all, my ball was 7ft long" Now as you can imagine, this raised my attention. a 7 foot ball pyton? i queary. "yes" she replies. Are you sure it was a ball phython? "well, it was in the ball phthon tank at the pet shop, i think it was a ball ..... or some kinda of phthon...... it looked like a diamond back". So it looked like (general description of a reticulated phthon) "yes" it didnt look more like (general discription of a ball phthon) "nope, it had the cross pattern". Sweetie, i reply, you had a reticulated python, they get 15 plus feet in captivity. "oh" Well, what ever happened to your pet? "my neighbor killed it and made it into a belt" WHAT?!!! Your neighbor kill your pet and made a belt!! i would have......pain!....violence!! "yea, but i didnt konw about it, he broken in my house, stole my snake, killed it, and made a belt. his friends ratted him out later, but by that time he was in prison"
So tell me, fellow herpers, does this story have a moral?

sure, I'd certainly hate to think of any pet store selling a reticulated python as a ball python! and her not knowing what one looks like to begin with? Wouldn't she have made inquires about care and books?

The moral of the story is that a person who does not know the difference between a ball python and a reticulated python has no business with any kind of snake, or probably any pet for that matter.
