When an animal "infringes" on our land, the general consensus is to kill it Such a shame. I just want to know when go searching for a specific gator, how do they know they got the right one?

Unfortunately they find out by splitting it's gut and checking the contents. And if the person or animal isn't in there Oh well lets catch another one that size and see. There bound to find it eventually.

You see the same thing when their is bear attacks. "We got the bear that attacked the boy scouts, it was wearing 6 merit badges. It obviously didn't earn the Mechanic Merit badge, so we got suspicious,"

I lived in Florida for a good part of my childhood and, unfortunately, this was the way of life. I never agreed with this practice, but it's something that people just accepted. My Aunt had a gator show up on her front lawn and she actually didn't call authorities. The neighbors did, but she figured that it was on the land before she was, so it would eventually go home.
I always thought that the best thing would have been to take the alligators to a facility that would distribute them to zoos that wanted a gator display. But no one seems to think in those terms.

To address a few points...
It's not feasible to distribute nuisance alligators to zoos. To begin with, the number of nuisance alligators harvested each year outnumbers the number of zoological parks. Furthermore, taking in alligators is a waste of limited resources for a zoo. Alligators are neither endagered, nor do they generate revenue. Day after day, zoos turn away countless people trying to donate reptiles. Aside from AZA accredited zoos, the only other option would be roadside zoos & menageries. Many of these maintain their animls in inadequate conditions.
As I've said before, relocation is not a viable option, as the animal will either end up dead, or right beck where it was removed from.
Realistically, alligators have become so populous that culling is necessary to ensure their overall health and survivability. This culling takes the form of harvesting nuisance alligators over four feet in length as well as licensed hunts.
Try not to react emotively for a moment, and think of this in an objective, rational manner.

Having lived in FL for 9 years, I actually only came across two gators in that entire time. One was just a baby on the side of the road near Kennedy Space Center. Just keep in mind that I haven't lived in FL for ten years. I know that it's not possible to rescue the gators, but one can always look for an alternative. That would be in an ideal world.
Being rational and objective: this is the real world. The best comparison is to deer hunting. Most people object to hunting, me being one of them, but the truth is that there really aren't any natural predators for deer (except man). By allowing the hunting of them, it helps to keep the population down. As long as there is control and regulation, I'm happy to acknowldge that it does work and this is the only option. In the long run, and to be bluntly honest, if it weren't for these methods, we would be overpopulated with certain animals.
I understand the situation, but one can always hope for a solution to senseless killing.
J
