Initiative, based in Gainesville, Florida, to help save snakes.
This Saturday and Sunday (July 16 and 17), 10% of the price of any
purchase you make at HerpArts.com—the one-stop on-line gift shop for
reptile and amphibian lovers—will be donated to the Upland Snake
Conservation Initiative's new Education Outreach Plan.
The plan is designed to educate the developers, lawmakers and
environmental groups who will make decisions that affect the future of
these snakes, by creating and distributing information to them about
the many threats to upland snakes. This information will explain:
Why homes should be built without destroying snake habitat
Why/what laws and regulations should be passed to protect snakes
Why environmental groups should get involved
Your help will enable them to do everything from print pamphlets to
create Power Point presentations to help achieve their goals.
The Upland Snake Conservation Initiative (USCI) was created to address
the issues, conservation, education and research needs surrounding
southeastern upland snakes. Many, including the eastern diamondback
rattlesnake and the eastern indigo snake, are in peril within the
southeastern United States.
