Are we addicted?
Thought I would look for some honest opinions and advice. I have 2 wonderful little guys, Shiva (RTB) and El Cajone (BP) that I am very happy with. Logically I should wait until getting another one - but when did logic ever control the heart?
As a quilter I know I am addicted to fabric and quilting. People think I'm nuts . . . cutting up perfectly good fabric and putting it back together again. LOL Anyway - never thought owning one snake would lead to two, or that then it would lead to more (although I harbored the idea at one point of breeding). But I find myself desiring another little one already. Logically, as I said, this should wait. However I do have room if I want to make way for it. So my next quandry is: what do I get?
Had considered corns or kings . . . but upon reading in that section and seeing how active, wiggly, etc. they can be, think perhaps I should stick with something a bit more laid back. With the show coming up in September here was thinking about buying there. Do think I would like to stick with a boa of some kind - but nothing that would get really large (over 5 or 6 feet). If I recall correctly the general consensus was that my Shiva was most likely a BCC. How big would a female BCC get? So . . . any ideas or suggestions for the next addition to my little family? Guess the other thing that will influence my decision will be what is actually available at the show vs ordering.
Anyway - thanks for reading and input.

You just have to know or find your limit. Every 3-5 months I was buying something new or trying to get another snake. At one point I had about 20 snakes and then 2 of by boas gave birth, so on top of my pets I also had over 45 babies. I realized I was in over my head! I took 2 years off, didn't buy a single thing, sold the babies and really thought "What do I want to make of this hobby?" I used to want to have a big breeding thing going on, that's not realistic for me due to my finances. I decided I do want to breed, but on a smaller scale and try to focus on boas (bci and hog isle) and some aboreals. (I still do have a corn tho! lol I couldn't let her go!). I'm down to 12 pets and have developed specifc breeding goals for over the next 5-6 years.
As far as what you should get next... yes colubrids are lil movers! They don't like to sit still at all and are fast. For boas, I would consider a rosy or sand boa! no, really! They are small, very colorfull, not totally common and are basically calm. They do like to stay burrow in the substrate more than most, but it's an idea! (also childrens and some of the smaller pythons are kinda neat too)
A female BCC can get anywhere from 6-10' (there are some 12footers as well). BCC typically get larger/longer than BCI. Females are typically larger and heavier than males. So Shiva could be quite big.
Sorry for rambling so much, hope some of that helped.

Can you post a pic of Shiva again? If there was a consensus necessary, It's unlikely to end up with a BCC without being told it's a BCC. Anyone selling them has to justify the price difference somehow. Anyway, It's not uncommon for BCC females to reach lengths of 11-12 feet or more. Most BCI females will only hit the 9-10 mark and some rarely get over 6 or 7 but ... Colombians are the most common BCI in the US pet trade and are amongst the largest locales of BCI...they too can easily reach 11-12 feet depending on diet, husbandry, genetics and any number of other factors.

Here are a couple pics of Shiva. He was sold as a Columbian Red Tail Boa - but as you can see he not a true redtail - beautiful as he is.

no pics? If sold as a BCI it is most likely a BCI then. BCC usually cost more. Is it a female or male? Male BCI tend to be around 5-6' and 10lbs, of course if you over feed they can be lil fatties too

He's a BCI. He will probably top out at 6-7-8 feet but could get bigger. I've seen 10 foot male Colombians.
