I AM SO EXCITED AND HAPPY!
I named him Sirius. I got pics but I dont know how to post pics on here yet. And I dont got no account anywhere to post it up somewhere for you to see... So boaguy12 i expect you to help me out here...LOL
Well info on Sirius....
He is lil over 5' the sibling to a pastel, hes 6 years old. His first owner didnt know how to care for him and stretched him!!!! They heard it was GOOD for him. Well they didnt want snake and gave it to Annie's son (who is adult) Annie is the woman i just got Sirius from.
They named him Tiny cause he was little. Her son couldnt keep snake cause of his birds and kid(s). Well he gave "Tiny" to Annie. Well one evening their was a dire emergancy and he was outside in his cage all night long (she let him out for the afternoon) she couldnt come home and it got very cold that night. She thought he would die. So after going to vet and 2 experts on snakes she got all the stuff to get him to recovery. His former owners before Annie fed him ever 3 weeks! She fed him every 7-10 days. She couldnt keep up with keeping him.
But i got him for a good bargain price. 125! hee hee what a great price for a 5' GORGEOUS boa, 40 gal tank, screen top, expensive UTH, 2 lamps, and his favorite rock. Well today when we got home we went to get food. He hate 2 almost medium rats, and he loves it. (he is not in 40 gal but in 55 gal) Hee Hee he loves it here. I am so glad! I got several pics but i dont know how to fix em, So i need some help there... Hee Hee

Just as a point here, there is nothing wrong with feeding a boa every 3-4 weeks. Older animals do not require the amount of food that younger animals do (their metabolism slows as they age). Overfeeding can cause obesity and health problems. As long as an animal has good body weight and good muscle tone, fewer feedings are still healthy.

He was fed 3-4 weeks every since his 1st owners got him which was like at 1 month old.

Thats how, and you hear popping, thats the MUSCLES popping! that makes them weak, and stressed. (she learned this from the vet) (I knew this already) and I had my mouth open the whole time she was telling me.
And the rock was just a 10 pound garden rock that is like 12" by 6" almost. He loves it. That was his favorite place yesterday after he ate.....
Well hes a great snake, and I am gonna get some pics up in a little.
thanks for the good praise!

Sorry but I tend to disagree with the context in the way you have set it forth here a bit.
While it is best to NOT overfeed aka power feeding, just the same is true on the opposite spectrum of the scale also by underfeeding, as both would relate to a snake's overall health status from it's feeding regime.
If you feed a snake every 3-4 weeks at a young age.. You are starving it is all !
If you feed a snake such as a BOA at 5' length and 6 years of age consistantly.. You are underfeeding it
YES I do agree that their metabolism does slow down as they mature, BUT what you are infering here in relation to such is out of the realm of relation to such. A feeding schedule of like every 10-14 days for the older referencing would be more suitable in feeding such a BOA. Doing such would NOT lead to overfeeding nor would it lead to underfeeding.
<TABLE BORDER=0 ALIGN=CENTER WIDTH=85%><TR><TD><font class="pn-sub">Quote:</font><HR></TD></TR><TR><TD><FONT class="pn-sub"><BLOCKQUOTE> As long as an animal has good body weight and good muscle tone, fewer feedings are still healthy.
</BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE>
YEAH??? Well to keep feeding like you suggest being done and the snake no longer would be healthy with good body weight and/or muscle tone either. Just my .02 from experience I have had over the years in relation to rehabs that were health jeopardized from their feeding regimes.

I strongly agree with you Lori. Sirius ate 2 rats yesterday, Annie was thrilled he ate after only 3 hours here. He is doing great. I asked Bry to post pics for me. He is totally unlike my other boa,Suri. She is extremly strong, and grips me tightly every time shes out. On the other hand Sirius doesnt grip hardly at all. My goal is to give him the best home, take the best care of him, and I do not wish to get rid of him ever. Hes a great snake, he may have bad scars but he looks great... I can't believe he is so gorgeous I never seen a picture of him and I was dreading he was gonna be a skinny and very dark, almost dead boa. Or not even a Colombian Redtail. Hee Hee boy I got the best belated birthday present with Sirius. I couldnt have asked for anything better.
Thanks all,
Jessy!

I have been keeping boas and pythons for 10-12 years. All of my adults (5+ years) are fed on a three to four week feeding schedule. All are healthy and have good body weight and muscle tone. All are subject to regular exams by a reputable herp vet and all of them are deemed in superb condition by my vet. While some people may choose to feed more often, it is not necessarily detrimental to the snake if the owner feeds less often, though with young animals there is the potential that a less frequent feeding regimen will inhibit growth and potentially stunt the animal or cause other health problems. The feeding schedule should match the animal in question. I am not saying to underfeed a growing animal or starve an adult, what I am saying is that they do not need to be power fed to be healthy. It is important to be aware of the animal's health and pay attention to body weight/size.

Hmm I been keeping for 25+ years here. I also have NEVER gone and placed a BOA in that time on a 3-4 week feeding schedule myself. Even adult BOAS. I just see it as quite an unhealthy thing to do with a cpative BOA.
Now Burms on the other hand I do feed every 2-3 weeks , once they are adults and can adequately go with such a feeding schedule. Some of my big uns will also get fed every 10-14 days. All depends on the particular snake
What also needs to be kept in mind in regards to the thread that you are posting on here giving such advice that a 3-4 week feeding regime is OK... Is that this thread is in relation to a BOA that has some obvious health issues going on for it atm. LAST thing I would suggest is to reduce that snake's feed intake by prolonging the interim between feeds. Sorry BUT I agree to disagree on that statement 100% in relation to a BOA
<TABLE BORDER=0 ALIGN=CENTER WIDTH=85%><TR><TD><font class="pn-sub">Quote:</font><HR></TD></TR><TR><TD><FONT class="pn-sub"><BLOCKQUOTE> All are healthy and have good body weight and muscle tone </BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE>

Such would also be the case for the opposite in underfeeding a BOA also.
Guess we can agree to disagree on the subject of feeding routines here ....
Jessy.. Great that he ate for ya I would keep to a good schedule in his feeds though. How's his body weight ? Is he underweight at all ? If he is go with a 2-1-2 prey items every 10-14 days time to get the weight up on him. Once he is on a better feeding schedule, you should start to notice an increase in his muscle tone.
