Full Day at Work
What a day today!
I started work this morning at 7:30am (I'm surgery tech on Wednesday and Thursday).
We started off with a 75 pound wallaroo that we had to neuter that really didn't want to be done. The roo jumped off the table and in coming down to the ground smacked his tail on my shoulder. I know now how it feels to get hit in the back with a baseball bat!
Second, we had to remove canine teeth on 2 capuchin monkeys. The female was really "tame" and was easy to give the tranq to. The male is another story. He had to be tranqed twice and with the owners' blood shed and still with an awake monkey three hours later. The owner finally got him in a small enough cage so we could bag him and gas him down, only because he was a little sedated.
On top of that I had 6 dentals, two spays, 2 declaws, and an amputation.
Not only that we had a marmoset with pneumonia and a siberian lynx.
Sorry I had to vent.... my shoulder hurts and so does my back

Wow, what a day! We have pretty busy days at the place I work, but we don't do exotics. So even thoguht we may have a lot of major surgeries (we do ACL's, fractures, major tumor removals, laser surgeries, etc. all the time) none of them are as interesting as a marmoset with pneumonia!

We do all that too. But today is the exotic doctors surgery day so some days are just a zoo! (literally)  The laser machine is great isn't it!

I love our laser! We've had it for a bit over a year now, and use it nearly every day. We do surgeries now that we never could have done before! And it makes declaws so much cleaner and easier on the animal.

you have animals from all over the world, we have pizza drivers from all over the world, and sometimes they smell like animals, so we're not that different after all..lol
