Friendly Reminder about Profanity on the Forums

In an effort to keep this site user friendly for EVERYONE, including young children and soccer moms, we have to ask that the use of profanity in any form is refrained from. What "any form" means is that by replacing a letter or two or even all but the first letter with symbols, is still profanity especially when the context and/or the remaining letter(s) make it obvious what word was meant to be used. Many sites are much more lenient on profanity, nudity, politics etc. Some sites let it get quite out of hand. When this happens, even the people that aren't offended tend to blow the site off as immature and regardless of how good any information is there, it just isn't credible. All the time and energy that has gone into developing RTB for what it is was not done in hopes that a bunch of immature delinquents would come along and make us lose our credibility and usefulness as a resource for good information for EVERYONE. If the Pope every stumbles into this site, he should leave smiling and enriched. I know a lot of you guys reading this have gotten PMs from me and/or other admins and mods after we had to edit your posts. If we seemed a bit edgy or harsh (I know I can be ESPECIALLY when it's coming from older members who have been around and know better) it gets fustrating to have to babysit all the time. Most of us here speak English. One of the really cool things about the English language is that it gives us many ways to express ourselves about any single thought. Many languages only really allow for very simple, unintellectual communication. So at least in English, there should be many replacement words for every cuss word and since most are just adjectives, they can simply be omitted anyway.

One of Pathfinder's first jobs as a new mod was to go around posting the TOS at the top of every forum. Please take the time to read it and please understand that this isn't a bunch of staff wanting to be bossy. It's a bunch of staff and a multitude of members, wanting RTB to be a credible resource for everyone. Porfanity, nudity, political debates etc will only offend some people. This is true. But the lack of that stuff should offend no one.

with the fact people try to replace cuss words with symbols..its annoying and it gets old real fast... if people can not sit here and be adults when posting a comment without cussing, then dont post..simple as that.

there is a time and place for this immature stuff.. and god knows i swear alot too ...ask the ppl i play halo 2 with, and ask brett how many times he's sent me PM's about my language...

if you gotta swear..do it some place else where it's not prohibited, or go into IRC chat and cuss.
