Delta lost my snake!
I bought a nice orange ammie from a guy in Portland, Oregon, and because the weather has been cold, paid the extra $50 to have it shipped Delta Dash. Went to the Delta cargo office at O'Hare yesterday to pick it up. It was not on the flight it was scheduled to be on, so I waited. Not on the next flight either. Evidently it made it to Atlanta at 6am yesterday, and never left. No one seems to know where it is. I ended up leaving two hours later with the promise that they'd call if it came in. Got two more calls today from the woman who helped me yesterday, basically saying she had called and emailed everyone she could think of, but had gotten no response or just that no one knew where it was. So more than 33 hours after it was supposed to arrive, it is still not here. I'm hoping it's warm enough in Atlanta that if it is found, it will be ok, but I'm not optimistic. If they haven't found it by now, I don't think they will. At least the guy I bought it from has been really nice- calling long distance to let me know what he has found out, and already offering a replacement. I just feel bad this this poor little snake is probably going to die a slow and painful death because Delta screwed up.

that is horrible. I feel bad for you, the breeder and especially the poor snake. Hopefully I'll tune in tomorrow and hear that despite it all that everything is okay.

Until someone starts a shuttle service just for shipping live animals, I will never ship again. I don't understand how they overshot Il from Portland and ended up in Atlanta. That's just nuts. Maybe I need to go herping at the airport tomorrow. Good luck. Hope it turns up safe.

This is killing me. I hate crap like this. Although it's been a long time, I think the snake will be OK if they find it soon and packed it with the right heat packs and the snake was in good original health. Again best of luck to all.

I've actually thought about getting a pilot's lisence and doing just that, Jules, but I don't have the money or the time. I don't know why it had to go to Atlanta first, unless that's their distribution center. And if you feel like going down to Delta cargo and shaking things up a bit, I would be most grateful.

there's no such thing as central distribution centers for airlines. air cargo just goes from one airport to another.. the only way for any package to end up on the wrong flight is total human error. Lets hope delta pulls thru and finds the package and offer some kind of appeasement for this loss. if not demand one.

That Sucks...
I know How it is to be excited to get your new snake in the mail...
You get the tank ready ,maybe even name it like I did..
But for the airline to screw it up like ordinary luggage...
MAn thats gotta be frustrating...
And you know the people on the other end are thinking ..."so what its only a snake"...
They should Have a special section for live animals...
But since the airline is just another buisiness , Im sure it was some overworked underpaid employee mistake.
Well I hope everything works out and they find him safe and sound....

delta is a mistake as a whole company..they should have never came into exsistance..but it's the only airline that will ship livestock at a reasonable rate.

i don't mean to sound unsymapathetic but...
Snakes aren't letters!
i feel sorry for the snake, not for the person who selfishly shipped it at a most unsuitable time of year. mailing pets is bad enough, it's just asking for trouble, but doing it at this time of year? Barking mad.

I have shipped with delta many times, and usually they were pretty reliable.
Moreso than overnight carriers used alot by herpers these days.
Many delta flights go to Atlanta, that is their central Hub.
Ive also flown with delta probably 2 dozen times or more, and out of those flights, nearly all of them had a layover in Atlanta.
Have the person who shipped the snake file a claim with Delta so he can get re-imbursed for both your losses.
If he is willing to replace it, that is excellent.
But one cant help but think of the poor snake sitting in some dark cold place somewhere just waiting to punish the first thing that opens that box.
If he/she makes it that long.
good luck
