Hey all!

Well, I applied for a job as an "amphibian or aquatic specialist" at the University of Virgina, and if I get the position I'd like to know what everyone thinks of Charlottesville, VA. I've been looking at apartments and the like, but I can't find any good info about Charlottesville itself. If anyone can give me a hand I'd really appreciaite it!

Thanks a lot!!

I lived in Charlottesville for 3 months. If you smoke cigarettes, you got it made. Much cheaper than here in NY. Back in 1993 a pack was a little over a dollar while here they were $2.50! Everyone I met were very warm and friendly. They seem to have a nice sort of accent to them. Public transportation was zero back then. Not like here in NY! You'll need a car to get you places. Houses and apartments are much cheaper in VA than in NYC also. UVA is a very nice college. Good luck in your studies. I miss Charlottesville and I definitely would like to retire there. One thing is for sure, I remember it being very quiet out there, very laid back.

Thanks for the reassurance, because I got an e-mail from the head biologist on the project and he wants to interview me! So, it looks like I just might be calling Charlottesville my home soon!
And Ophiophagus-hannah, if you miss it that much, you can come visit! We can go herping together!

I live in the Burg (Harrisonburg, VA) which fairly close, about an hour away. It's similiar to Harrisonburg, but a little more upscale, due to UVA being a little more upscale the James Madison Univeristy, but both are fairly big college towns. Not much more info I can give you, the weather in the Mountains here is Schizo, we had snow last thurs and the day before was 65, and today is mid sixties too, so be prepared. People are friendly, though with all the College Students around, it's a weird mix sometimes. It seems all the students in these parts are from Conn, NJ, and NY.

Matt
