My kids each just got a hisser for a pet. They named them Spike and Fang. They actually are very cool- they move very slowly and have no teeth to bite with.

I think one tank of breeding roaches is enough- both hissers have their own little critter keeper. They're actually awesome pets for little kids (mine are 4 and 7). They can clean the cages (and I have seen NO evidence of roach poop), handle the roaches, feed them fruit and veggies... My younger son wants a snake, so I told him he has to practice first on this for a WHILE.
