reptile laws by state
Anyone know or have a listing of what is allowed and not allowed in different states? I started off by just searching for Connecticut and found some stuff on another site but it was mainly just links to the State webpages and then you have to search through there.
I know I've seen several threads with folks worried that they might be violating something in there area and something like this could be useful.

Here's some of my thoughts. #1 It would be real helpful the herpers out there to know exactly what the "rules" are where they live #2 How can we hope to change or defend what we're not even sure of?
I've read of different groups in different area's getting silly laws changed concerning reptiles.

Briefly I will say that a comprehensive database of reptile laws is not feasible as they change so rapidly. Your best bet is to check state first, then check county and city. State contacts are easy. I have a link for Reptile Laws on my page at www.reptileeducation.com that goes to Mardi's contact page. Contact those agencies first, then start working your way down. The only problem is that the state agencies are often ignorant of their own laws since it generally does not come up much.
That is all I have the energy for right now.

another idea might be to contact herp societies.. they have all of the up to date information on herp laws.. but i know in florida you can own just about every kind of snake except for florida pines and a couple other endangered/threatened species. you need a permit for any kind of croc/gator/caiman and you need a minimum training time n liscense to have venomous..

There is a book called "A field guide to reptiles and the law" by John P. Levell
It breaks down state by state, what you can keep, collect, and what you can do to follow due process.
BOOKS ARE GOOD

I have that book. The only problem is that laws have changed a great deal since it was written. It gives you a good idea of the laws, then you need to verify. But it does have good contact information.
