Snake measuring tool!
I downloaded this nifty little freeware program from Herp World the other day, and man was it well worth it! If you have a digital camera and an object of known size, you can accurately measure your snake with out the use of string, sheds or guestimates. Really simple, but brilliant!

** Try to take your photo from directly above your snake and object of know size for accurate measurement.

I did a google on that file you have missing and came up with this:
Quote:
You downloaded a software and when you try to run it, you receive a "missing file" error like this...
comdlg32.ocx missing
What's up with that ?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A particular file (e.g MFC42.DLL or COMDLG32.OCX or any other) is missing
Developers sometimes assume that most people have those files, however if you don't download very often and don't use a lot of software other than what came with your computer - you may need an additional support file here and there. Microsoft releases new "Run-time" files every now and then, they allow software developers to make use of the latest technology when creating new software. In order for YOU to use these programs, you need to update your Windows system with these files. Many software products requires the VB6 Runtimes or the earlier version, the VB5 Runtimes.
|
(This info came from this link: http://www.snapfiles.com/help/missingfiles.html)
I found the file you need to install and here is the page with it and the instructions:
http://www.ascentive.com/support/new...e=COMDLG32.OCX
I suggest just going down to the second link listed under Alternatively and just downloading and installing the COMDLG32.OCX file that you need.
Hope this helps.

Well, if you take a picture from directly above your object of EXACT known size and your critter, then it's perfectly accurate. If you take an angled picture, then the perspective can skew the sizes.

when i download my pictures they're too big for the window and I can only see a foot of my snake. Does anyone know how to make the pictures smaller to be able to see the whole picture and then measure the whole snake?

You need to resize the pics, using either a photo editor program, or a nifty little XP utility called:
Image Resizer
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...ertoySetup.exe
Install that little proggy, then right click on the picture file name and choose 'Resize Pictures' from the menu. You get the option of small, medium and large. You can keep the original file by allowing the proggy to create a resized copy, or overwrite the original by choosing 'Advanced' and then clicking 'resize original pictures (don't create copies)'.
Have fun.
