For $60 and shipping, I'll send you a little boa that will melt his heart. Your address and a couple minutes with PayPal, and it'll be on your doorstep in the morning, too late for him to say much.

But seriously -- the dead feeding thing might help some. Beyond that, just take him where snakes are and get him to handle some cute non-threatening one. Lots of people who previously thought they didn't like snakes have changed their minds after handling ours. My wife, in fact, began only tolerating the idea: "Well, if you're really sure that's something you want, it's OK with me. But don't expect me to play with it..." and these days she almost cries each time the UPS truck pulls out and takes another one of our babies away. Her first stop when she gets up in the morning is to wave good morning to one of our boas who habitually greets the day with an interesting pose near the front of his cage. Bottom line -- many snakes are sweet, cute, and nice. Devise ways for him to find this out.

I'm sure the boys will give you support!
Regarding feeding.
We breed and grow our own mice and rats for feeding. There are advantages and disadvantages to this.

Advantages
You know what the feeders are fed on
you know where theyve come from
you know what sort of life they've lived
you can select exactly the right size
theres less likelyhood of diseased stock

Disadvantages
The smell. Out here weather means they have to be kept indoors 24/7. Mice are worse than rats. They need 'their own space'
Mess. Food and substrate thrown out of cage.
Cost, Im sure it costs us more to feed the colony than cost of frozen. Also iniital setting up of cages etc.
Care. Twice a day going round checking them for food/water, 1-2 times a week to clean out several cages.
Emotional. They have great personalities and rats are especially intelligent and cuddly.
Hard to find anyone else willing to look after them if you go away.
Having to kill them when necessary. Personally, I cant face it and leave it to partner.
