A WC Cali King

While at the Rattlesnake Symposium, JD and I managed to duck away for a couple hours to do some herping. He is still there for a bit longer, so hopefully he will have some nice pics of tail waggers. But we did manage to find a beautiful Cali King and a couple other odds and ends.











JD also managed to catch this little fence lizard (I think).





We did spend a few minutes trying to catch a Kangaroo Rat. Why? Why not?

We kept at them in this bush until one made a run for it. It ran as fast as it could and ran head first into a rock! :w No wonder they get picked off by snakes.

Fun stuff. I love California. I had a great job offer a few years ago if I would move to San Francisco to shoot for Glamour Magazine...but I have a son and didn't have custody at the time so I stayed here. I'm glad I did though. Relocating Megan here from NC was hard enough. I can't imagine trying to get her over to the other coast.

Kangaroo rats are cool. they don't drink water...ever. They line their holes with their own feces and absorb the humitiy that steams up out of the compost through their skin. Desert survival at it's best!...or worst I guess if you think about it lol.

Ewwww! but thanks for the info Julius, I never knew that! Being a homeschool mom I actually find that fascinating and can't wait to share with the kids.
