This is a very hard post to make, but I feel the need to remind everyone to please be careful this weekend when you're having fun celebrating the holiday, don't drive if you've been drinking. I lost four friends Friday night in a car accident that was caused by a woman driving home drunk from a bar. All four of my friends were in one car and were killed instantly. They were all sober, they were coming home from a late movie. The driver of the other car experienced only minor injuries and was taken to jail where she is being charged with four counts of manslaughter. Two of my friends were a married couple who had two children, one who was a year and a half and the other two and a half. Luckily, they have family who can care for the children, but it is such a senseless tragedy that these children will now never know how wonderful their parents were. My other two friends were engaged and were 21 and 22 with their whole lives ahead of them.
I'm not saying this to preach to anyone or to gain any sympathy, I just really want everyone to be extra careful and think twice before getting behind the wheel. If you think for even a moment that you may not be OK to drive, cabs are worth it and I'm sure a friend would be glad to take you home.
Everyone please, have a happy and safe holiday.

Such a sad tragedy. This reminds me of my friends parents that were killed by a drunk driver 3 years ago. They were going home from a Christening, riding in the backseat of a small car. They were killed instantly when a Pathfinder hit the small car in the right rear end corner of the car. He ran a red light and had a blood alcohol level way above normal. The person driving my friends parents home also lost his girlfriend that was riding in the front seat. He was the sole survivor.
The whole rearend of the small car was smashed. If anything, tragedies like this help us realize just how precious life really can be. Live life to the fullest and most responsible way we can. Take care all and thanks Celtic for this post.

Very good point. Drinking and driving is one of the most caused reasons of car wrecks and deaths. I'm very sorry to hear about your friends man. I know what it's like. This weekend, I had to talk to a few of my friends trying to drive home drunk after a graduation party.

You are so right, CW. I know there is absolutly nothing that will ease the pain you are going through. Perhaps by posting this, you may save another life. That would help a little.
Not too long ago, a co-worker lost her niece and her niece's tiny daughter when a drunk did a hit and run. They burnt to death, The husband and son are still in ICU and missed the double funeral last week. They finally caught the drunk driver, but no matter what he gets (it won't be enough) he can never make up for that little boy wanting and needing his mommy, and she's not there, nor is his sister. And his father will now have to find the strength to recouperate and raise a boy all on his own.
My heart goes out to you and the familes of the poor victims. I pray for healing of all the broken hearts and for the strength for you all to carry on.
Thank you for selflessly posting something so dreadfully painful for you. May peace find you.

I feel as though this is a problem that should really be taken more seriously. We all know someone or of someone who was affected by a drunk driver. Please if your gonna drink use a DD or a cab. Some places will even pay for the cab, since now bars can be charged for someones ignorence. I understand that drinking can be an enjoyable thing but be responsible. I am not supposed to leave post right now but was given permision to in the event that someone needed a ride. We really support the DD system around here and it's a trend that needs to keep growing. BadKarma, I think it's great that they know how very serious this issue is that they are willing to let you leave your post to help. That is a step in the right direction and perhaps the 'civilian' (I was going to say civilized, but it didn't fit quite right) world could learn from that.
A blessed Memorial Day for all of you.

I know that must have been a really hard post to make. thank you. I have always felt that this country is way too easy on drunk drivers. if you compare our laws to most other countries, ours are obsurd. I am very sorry to hear about your loss -Juggalo
